.NET 2 breaks Dantz Retrospect Express HD

Some history,
I have a Maxtor OneTouch II USB 2 backup drive with Retrospect Express
HD.

I recently found that Retrospect Express HD hangs at Updating Status.
This has happened before, and all that was required was a clean
reinstall.

This time, I found several possible solutions in Maxtor's knowledge
base, particularily Answer 2352 - which notes that .NET 1 broke the
program. However, none fixed the problem, see below.

First, I uninstalled and reinstalled the Maxtor One Touch and
Retrospect Express HD. No change.

Next, I deleted the RBC file and all other files on the OneTouch II
drive and uninstalled/reinstalled the Maxtor and Retrospect Express HD
software again. Still did not work.

I then installed Maxtor's patch WIN_ReXHDOT2_DR VUP.EXE. That did not
help.

I reinstalled the Microsoft .NET 1.1 patch #885055, per Answer 2353.
Retrospect still hangs at updating status.

I resently installed version 2.0 of NET. Seems like the likely
suspect. Whatever it is, Retrospect Express HD is still hanging at the
updating status point.

What should I do now?

Dantz posts a fix. It is NOT compatible. You must uninstall .NET 2, see

So much for .NET 2.

That kb article seems to have disappeared.

Just recently installed Maxtor One Touch II and Dantz Retrospect Express HD
and had same problem during first back-up try. I set my PC running XP Home to
"never stand-by" and "never hibernate" and backups worked fine. My problem is
with Dantz Retrospect; it causes IE Explorer to bog way way down or even
hang. Disabled Dantz from starting (2 apps) and IE Explorer works fine. My
default browser is Firefox. Just recently updated .NET

Had the same problem and tried all suggested solutions. Finally Maxtor
Help advised me to install Retrospect 6 which is hidden away on the
installation CD. Did that and it runs fine. I don't know what I'm
missing by not having Retrospect HD but back up is working now

I asked a lot of questions in May about how to organize OO code. I didn't get great answers here, but someone here suggested that I look the Eclipse library, which was a good tip. Looking at its small, simply objects was an education for me. What I was wondering, when I rewrote my cms from procedural code to OO was how to avoid end up have every class called by ever other? I was writing massive objects where every object needed every...

I just installed Python 2.3.3 under Windows XP professional. After I did, my wife tried to access her email using Outlook Express and got the error messages: Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. I have a memo field that is included in some Access reports I created. Is there some way for the memo field to display nicely formatted text, with line breaks between paragraphs? Or is it necessary to export the report? I tried exporting a report by using the .rtf rich-text format (the plain-text format was the only other word-processing option listed when exporting). I then opened the .rtf file in Word. However, it looks like some...

My problem is similar to the thread entited, "SP2 kills my AxWebBrowser" except that I haven't been able to get the fixes to work for me. I've written an application that uses an embedded WebBrowser control for most of it's UI. (At the time it seemed like a good idea, but in retrospect I think it was more work than it was worth.) In it, I first navigate to about:blank, wait for the browser to be ready, and then write my html to the...

I need my textbox to work more smoothly with respect to line breaks. When I have data pulled from the database into a textbox there are hard line breaks at the end of each line (by definition how Lines property works, right?). But, the textbox is used for editing data previously entered into the database. Ideally, what I want is just a hard break at the end of each paragraph so users can smoothly enter or remove data anywhere without...

I posted this yesterday with a different email address. I am reposting with my fake-address as given to me by Microsoft so that I can be guraranteed a response from a support representative. Sorry for the repost. I'd like to make use of the asp:Wizard control to present a step-by-step guided experience for my user to fill out a complicated data-entry form. I'd like to make use of two-way databinding provided by the asp:FormView control...

I understand that when a switch statement is used without breaks, the code continues executing even after a matching case is found. Why, though, are subsequent cases not evaluated? I wrote a program to demonstrate how a switch without breaks behaves vs. how I expected it to behave. The code includes: (1) a switch statement with breaks (2) the if/else statements that have the same results as (1) (3) a switch statement without breaks...

Didn't know exactly where to post this, but: How do I get line breaks in a textarea? I'm pulling text from a database, and this text definately has line breaks in it, because I replaced all the line breaks with <br /> tags ( using the php function nl2br() ), and <br /> tags showed up in the textarea.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
