So with MS looking towards Longhorn Indigo messaging, for Service
based Applications Integration, its brief dalience with adoption of
industry wide Web Service standards is over. This is a major
dissapointment we were looking towards a more positive attitude
towards interoperation with third party products. Is it not possible
for MS to ensure that Indigo has some compliance with emerging
Asynchronous/Message based Web Service open standards ? It is looking
very much as though MS believes that our servers only have to
interoperate with MS Windows platforms. This is a pretty stupid
assumption, even if a lot of would love to redevelop everying on MS
Windows and .NET. It just isn't going to happen.
So it looks as though Longhorn is going to drive us back to making a
hard choice between J2EE and MS System Development. From where we sit
today I can only recommend that our product development team return to
the standards based J2EE community, because we can not afford to none
interoperable with third party systems and products.
Very sad, Very sad, I was hoping MS had a direction with .NET and
Webservices. 3 1687
Jules,
I'm not sure where you got your information. Could you post a link to
whatever your source is if possible? From all that I've read, and based on
what I've used of the preview of Whidbey, Indigo is going to support at
least the standards that the WSE supports today. Perhaps you'd be
interested in reading the following FAQ, particularly the last two questions
in the Migration section. http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en...asp?frame=true

Indigo will produce and consume transport messages using SOAP. How much more
"compliant" would you like it to get?
I'd suggest you read the specs and articles (at least what's out there now)
to get a better idea of how the thing is supposed to work.
And as far as having a "hard choice" between J2EE and Indigo... well,
Microsoft is not about to give you J2EE on Windows just because you think
it's cool. They'll give you whatever they want and if you don't like it then
use something else. Most J2EE implementations run fine on Windows. In any
case, as long as you can speak XML/SOAP and TCP you'll be able to talk to
Indigo.

Hello,
Your link is only partially reassuring. It is no means clear that
Indigo will be message based interoperable with J2EE (JMS) and BEA adn
Websphere etc, only that it will be compliant with todays Web Services
(Synchronous) standards. Without any clear open standards on message
based web services I am probably being too harsh on MS.
However my pessimistic view has been provoked by the following rather
stark quote:
"Microsoft is saying, 'All this open standards with Web services has
gone far enough,'" said the executive, who requested anonymity. "It's
back to the movie as we know it."
Which lies within a ZDNEt article http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1104_2-5061198.html
So I remain rather sceptical until MS make it clearer their intent wrt
to opne standards.

I just went to an Indigo Roadshow meeting at the University of Washington.
It was a very clear, clean informative presentation.
Indigo is really good stuff -- it's a new layer that lets people build
real Internet applications -- like p2p chat systems, and out of process
server components addressible by http...all the 'real' stuff that it
used to take COM or hardcore java to do.
Now, the thing is, the Marketing Dweebs are wanting to...

Here's my points from the Indigo Roadshow at U. WA in Seattle last night:
It’s not longer called Indigo; it’s WCF, Windows Communication Framework
WFC is an amalgam of material that has previously appeared in .NET,
MSMQ, COM, WSE (Web Service Extensions) 2.0. The principle of WFC is
acknowledgement that programs are becoming interface and message based,
and that much of that messaging that used other protocols and be done
just using...

Hi
I am writing some kind of a storage system that have to deal with large amounts of data passing over the net, Now, I Wonder... traditional programming would use win32 Winsock DLL as the means of data transportation... now, indigo is the new communication layer of the CLR,
- Does indigo uses Winsock internally?
- Is it possible to use indigo for such a task?
- I assume using indigo has it's performance penalty ( doesn't it ?
- Does...

We are in the inception phase of architecting a .NET based multi tier
application. Due to the .NET technology advancements, we have decided to go
with .NET 2.0 beta 2 for development. One of the objectives is to implement
SOA.
Based on initial analysis, it has been decided (subject to change) to use
web services as the communication channel.
Since, Indigo would target the next generation SOA, we are not clear on what
will be available...

You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
