I have an MSDN subscription, and have all versions of Windows Server 2003
available.
I have been programming in Visual Studio .NET 2002 in Windows XP and 2000,
and I am setting up a new machine with .NET 2003 for new projects.
My question is, which version of Windows Server 2003 (Standard, Enterprise,
Web) is best for .NET development? I am only using the computer for
development, I won't be running any of my applications from it.
Thanks for your help, and yes, I have already Googled for this question and
not found it.

Hi,
I would use Standard. Web Edition is only a webserver, and the main
difference between Enterprise and Standard is that Enterprise can handle
more resources.

Chris,
Windows Server 2003 Standard should work just fine for a development
environment. I'm currently using it with no major problems although you do
need to understand the differences between Windows 2000 Server and Windows
Server 2003, especially where COM+ is involved.
Best regards,
Jeff Lynch

Hi
I am planning to open a software company to develop client-server apps and
web applications for my client. Now, i am in a difficult situation to
determine what is the best platform i should use to develop the application
for my end users. Should I use Java or MS.Net technology or should I mix
both of them ?
Basically, I have these criteria in mind before I decide which platform I
should adopt :
1. Ease of use - which one is easy to...

Are there any known issues with developing ASP.NET web applications directly
on Windows 2003 Server running VS.NET 2003 Pro, SQL Server client tools, and
using VSS for source control? Essentially using W2003 Server as a desktop
with the exception of leveraging IIS 6.0.
Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone,
which compiler will Python 2.5 on Windows (Intel) be built with? I
notice that Python 2.4 apparently has been built with the VS2003
toolkit compiler, and I read a post from Scott David Daniels where
he said that probably the VS2003 toolkit will be used for Python 2.5
again. However, even before the release of Python 2.5, I cannot seem to
find many retailers around here that still carry Visual Studio 2003,
and some were a...

I am setting up my ASP.NET 2.0 development environment. I have a hard time
picking between Windows XP Pro vs Windows Server 2003 since I am not sure of
all the pros and cons that come with each OS. And if Windows Server 2003 is
better, which edition then? Web edition, enterprise edition, etc...
Please share with me your OS choice for ASP.NET 2.0 development and the
reasons behind it? Thanks very much in advance.

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
