Can anyone give me any idea as to why there is such a broad disparity in prices?
... and maybe a recommendation as to where to get the best prices?

First, retailers can charge whatever they want for the product(s). However,
beware of too good to be true prices or offers via unsolicited email (Spam),
as you may encounter pirated software.
Perhaps a comparison of the editions offered will help you decide:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/pr...s/default.aspx

Be sure the vendor identifies the edition for sale in Microsoft's terms:
Professional, Enterprise Developer, Enterprise Architect. There is also a
"Special Edition" being offered which is the Professional Edition of VS
2003, plus Windows Server Standard Edition and something else.

First, make sure you're NOT getting the Academic or other special version.

If at all possible, get the Enterprise Architect edition. Your cheapest
route is probably going to involve heading over to E-Bay and buying the VS
..NET 2002 Enterprise Architect for about $400 (exactly what I did two years
ago for about the same price)"

http://cgi.ebay.com/Microsoft-Visual...QQcmdZViewItem

The follow that up with the VS .NET 2003 Enterprise Architect Upgrade for
around $65.00 (I bought mine from MS for $20 in 2003):

http://cgi.ebay.com/VISUAL-STUDIO-NE...QQcmdZViewItem

So, for a little over $500 (including shipping) you'll have the development
environment, Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition, Windows 2000 Advanced
Server, SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition, Exhange Server 2000 and many
others. You also get Visio 2002, which I do not believe comes with other
versions.

Good Luck,

carl

My gut says the $225 copy of the EA edition is too good to be true.

Hi everyone, which compiler will Python 2.5 on Windows (Intel) be built with? I notice that Python 2.4 apparently has been built with the VS2003 toolkit compiler, and I read a post from Scott David Daniels where he said that probably the VS2003 toolkit will be used for Python 2.5 again. However, even before the release of Python 2.5, I cannot seem to find many retailers around here that still carry Visual Studio 2003, and some were a...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
