What problem(s) are you having, when trying to install Linux? Which distribution are you trying to use? And do you have any experience with installing Linux?

We'll need this and possibly more information before we can help you. But there's certainly evidence on the web, that installing Linux on a Dell Inspiron 6000 is possible and apparently the installations can work just fine.

Dell partners with ubuntu for its linux distribution. You try to install ubuntu linux on your inspiron 6000. You can request Ubunutu installation cd (free of charge) or download ubuntu from url : https://shipit.ubuntu.com/

It would be better if can elaborate your problem in intalling linux.

Hello,

Problem I faced while installing Linux in my dell inspiron is "sata driver problem". it exists with old versions of Linux distribution only. so if you try with new version it may have solved. eg debian Lenny, fedora 11, etc..

If the OPs problem were with SATA drivers, Windows XP would probably not install easily either, as those drivers have to be added before the actual installation. (It's possible to do that of course, but if that were the case, I'm sure the OP would have given such details.) Still, that information may be useful for other visitors, so thank you for giving it. :-)

Now, as long as we don't get more information about what the problem is, we can't help much. So we'll just have to wait and see if the OP returns.

Greetings,

Hello there! I have a small problem while setting up a chrooted cvs server which returns "No such system user" when I try to do some action on it (e.g. "cvs co module"). I tracked the problem down to the getpwnam syscall somewhere inside the CVS code and tried to chroot into my server's environment myself to see whats up. Since I'm (not yet) very comfortable with Perl I wrote

Hello, Since DB2 Cluster Certification Guide is out of print and I cannot seem to get my hands on a copy, is there a publication that would give me a "cookbook" approach to setting up a cluster using Linux and multiple machines? I came across a couple of things, but they all assume one honking great AIX box with multiple SPs and that sort of thing.

Hello, I am working with a client that has an old Linux server with a custom cbase program. The server has been humming along since 1989, with the exception of a HDD fail in 1994, which was replaced restored from tape. The uptime on this beast is like 12 years and counting. Just this week the last linux terminal was replaced with a new Dell running XP Pro. The client wants to keep the software but wants the space where the server fits...

I have HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4240N. It seems to be a problem though with either the cd rom drive or the operating system because whatever CD I put in it does not recognize as a CDR or a CDRW eventhough it does read from them. It tells me that there is no disc in the drive and to please insert a writable CD into the drive. I am running a DELL INSPIRON 1100. Any help or advice on this would be appreciated. Thanx.

We have a problem, and as I am not a driver programmer, or even a Windows Applications programmer, I don’t even know how to start. Any help you can give will be appreciated. This involves the Dell Latitude XT laptop. This computer has an N-Trig touchscreen digitizer. I am skipping the analysis of the problem and getting right to basics. The touchscreen is hardwired to the USB bus. When the computer is booted, anything using a...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
