Dell had some problems with USB devices (especially from S3 sleep mode) in their early BIOS. I updated my BIOS to version A11 and installed their sleep patch and now have no problems. If you can't find those on the Dell web site, I will track down the links for you.

It's no problem. Go to Dell Support and click on Drivers and Downloads. Then follow the steps there.

Hi all, I'm working on an educational applet for a child with special needs. He's got a bit of a trick to make my life more difficult... To interact with the applet he needs to click on buttons, which is fine most of the time (he comes from a Mac environment, so I accept mouse clicks from the right or left button when he's working on the PC). But every once in a while, he'll press and hold the right mouse button, move onto a JButton,...

I have set onmousedown to change the cursor, but this setting is ignored (IE 5.5; NN 6.1 on Win 2K Pro) until the mouse is either moved or the mouse button is released. On Opera 7.01, the setting seems to be ignored completely, even when I try with window.setTimeout. So my two questions are: (1) Most important: Is there anything I can do so that I don't have to wait for the next mouse event before the cursor gets repainted. (2) Why...

I am trying to catch mouse position on the entire screen by dynamically generating mouse click event at every 100 ms. My code only works for IEs but not any Netscape or Gecko-based browsers. The following are the problems and I hope that there is someone who can enlighten me or give me some pointers. Also, my testing code is attached at the end. And please don't ask me why I am doing this - it is one of functional requirements by all...

Hi, I've been given the task of mantaining and fixing a website which I didn't design. I'm using Internet Explorer 5.5 and 6.x. Specifically, the problem is that navigation menues (written in javascript) don't disappear when the mouse moves outside of the area of the menues (some of the menues are nested two and three levels). As long as the mouse cursor remains *within* the options of the menues, the option under the mouse cursor is...

I need to be able to detect mouse movement even when it is not over my application. I can get the mouse cords using MousePosition but I am not sure if there is an event that hits my program when the mouse is not over my program. One idea i had was make a child form that was transparent and use the MouseMove event to keep that transparent window under the mouse but the transparent window did not catch the MouseMove event. I also tried...

Hello, I am working on a C# application for an industrial machine, using Windows Forms, where the user could look at the screen from a 90 degree rotated position, like he could turn the monitor to leave it standing on its left (or right) side. There are many ways to show a "turned" interface in this case, but the problem is that when he moves the mouse right, in a turned screen the mouse cursor goes down (or up), when he moves it up...

I have a really professional conspiracy movie site and I use tons of layers and an external scroll bar assembly. I would like to put the various sections into MS Iframes and in order to clean up the page but I find that the iframes interfere with the getting the mouse coords from the screen which is essential in moving the scroll bar around. My test html is given below. With the iframe hidden the mouse coords are obtainable. With the...

I have the opportunity to rescue a project that uses a mouse to sense the relative position of a machine. The hardware is built...just needs to be programmed. Stop snickering!!! I didn't do it...I just gotta fix it. I need to make some calculations on the measurements and VB6 is my language. Yes, the system mouse will corrupt the measurement, but it's an auditing function and that's acceptable.

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
