Hello,
I've been reading up on security in Java Applets and whilst I understand
the concept, I can't successfully get my applet to read a file on my local
machine.
I discovered from http://java.sun.com/sfaq/#read:
-----
Sun's appletviewer allows applets to read files that are named on the access
control list for reading. The access control list for reading is null by
default, in the JDK. You can allow applets to read directories or files...

I am trying to run a Java Applet on my ascx page and am getting an IO
exception when IE6 tries to load the applet. It seems a lot of others are
getting the same problem but a search of the web did not turn up any sort of
solution. I have tried most of the suggestions but none of them seem to have
helped with the problem.
My error is below and the most significant part of it is the HTTP connection
failure.

Here are the source code files to a Java applet that utilizes
LiveConnect to communicate with Javascript, and the HTML file.
The thing works both in IE 6.0 and FireFox 1.4. but with some problems.
IE crashes when one refreshes the page or leave the page. This happens
only after calling the Java method more than once. It does not crash if
the Java method is called just once and then the page is refreshed.
FireFox does not crash at all...

Is there a limitation in ASP.NET in this regard? From the aspx code
below, I can successfully call a Java applet. If I try the identical
thing in a user control ascx however, the control loads and hangs.
The Java console offers no clues. The server serves the aspx page
that contains the control, view source shows the expected html.
However, the applet does nothing. I'm integrating Quadbase
ExpressReport into a site. TIA.

I need to send an http request from an applet to a web server other than the one where the applet was loaded from. Sandbox prohibits doing this directly. The applet sandbox only allows connetion to the host it was loaded from.
So, I need to use a proxy to fool the applet sandbox. Applet is loaded from IIS which uses JRun for servlets. I gather I need to write a servlet to act as a proxy because I was told that IIS/Jrun cannot be configured to...

Hi,
I'm pretty new to java, and I have a small problem involving drawing a rectangle on a java applet.Firstly this is not a plea for someone to help me with this peice of work, I just need pointing in the right direction.
Ok the problem.
I am creating a program that ask the user to input a height value, the program will then do a calculation and create a golden ratio width. The type of both the height and the width are double.
This is...

Hi, a few (3) questions for the Java experts, and let me know if this is the right forum. It deals with 100% java code (reason for posting here) but manages a Web browser with Javascript. Thanks in advance for responding. I have made a stub of the codes for better understanding.
Situation: I have a Java servlet (HelloWorldServlet) running on a Tomcat (5.5.26) server on a Linux machine (compiled in JDK1.4.2). It writes Javascript to construct...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
