There's a website I like to visit that has an user-interactive java
application. There's a "visual applet" component and "control applet"
component. (No, it's not an adult or porno site.)
But the application isn't always usable because one or both of the
applets have "failed," and has to be reset or something like that.
I don't get it. How the hell does an applet "fail"?
It's a set of instructions in code, right? It doesn't...

Hi,
I have a web-based application and some of the UI I want to
incorporate is just too complicated for javascript. Instead of using a
Java Applet, I would like to have the user download a .net assembly
containing a form and run that in a browser.
I'm happy for the form to run in an applet-like sandbox (cannot write
to local hard disk, can only talk to the server it came from etc).
What I don't want is for the user to have to install...

I am constantly struggling with the problem of what 'type' of application to
develop. WinForm or WebForm?
The customer says I need a central database for all sites but the sites are
geographically disperse limited to DSL Internet access (VPN solution not an
option due to huge support burden).
The users at each site want a rich, high performance interface but the folks
back at headquarters want a birds-eye view of all data.
It would be...

Hi
I am looking for any articles anyone may know of on developing a finite
state machine in a gui application?
Basically what I have is a fairly complex gui which needs to go through
several (3 - 7?) states. Complex algorithms are running as their own
separate code blocks operating on class-level data structures, the
completion of the processing of one set of data takes the application from
one 'state' to another. Once the last operation...

I am working on a new program that uses a SOAP interface. I have written
a few of these before, but this time it is giving me trouble. I suspect
there is a problem with on the SOAP handler side, but since I'm not an expect
I cannot be sure.
The vendor has provided me a url to the WSDL document for the soap service.
Using the .Net WSDL utility, I generate a c# proxy class. When I'm trying
to use the methods of the soap service, I get...

I have the following question about them and need your help.
1. Can ActiveX control open a socket in client machine to connect to a third
machine other than web server?
2. Can ActiveX control invoke a client side application? I remember it can
before. Any restriction on it?
3. Same questions to Java Applet within Web browser.
Thank you very much.

I need to send an http request from an applet to a web server other than the one where the applet was loaded from. Sandbox prohibits doing this directly. The applet sandbox only allows connetion to the host it was loaded from.
So, I need to use a proxy to fool the applet sandbox. Applet is loaded from IIS which uses JRun for servlets. I gather I need to write a servlet to act as a proxy because I was told that IIS/Jrun cannot be configured to...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
