I need to send an http request from an applet to a web server other than the one where the applet was loaded from. Sandbox prohibits doing this directly. The applet sandbox only allows connetion to the host it was loaded from.
So, I need to use a proxy to fool the applet sandbox. Applet is loaded from IIS which uses JRun for servlets. I gather I need to write a servlet to act as a proxy because I was told that IIS/Jrun cannot be configured to perform this type of redirect automatically. Is there a better method?
If I need a servlet is there an open source or commercial software that does this? The http response will have either one jpeg image in a regular http response, or several jpeg images (mjpeg) in multipart response. I need a proxy servlet which acts as a passthru regardles of the response type so it would not matter if we get regular or multipart response.

urllib2 (under windows) will auto-detect your proxy settings and use
those.
Normally that's a good thing (I guess), except when it's not !
How do I switch off this behaviour ? I'm behind a censoring proxy and
wanting to test things *locally*. IE is set to not use the proxy when
fetching local adresses, but urllib2 ignores that part of the setting
and uses the proxy for everything.

2) a test server (for the users to test milestone builds - changes weekly)
3) production server (for when a new build is fully tested, and stable)
The problem is that the connectionstring in the web.config, should be
replaced with something else, for each of the enviroments.

Thanks for the suggestion, I screwed up the IIS setting, that caused the
problem, it's fixed after I change the setting back. Thanks.
I do have one more question. In my client application, normally when I add
that web reference, Visual Stiudio .Net will automatically generate the
proxy in reference.cs. But I noticed that in some examples, they just write
their own proxy class without adding that web reference, what's differnce...
