what's wrong with ajax?

interesting "signal vs. noise" blog entry:

Here's the story, which I haven't digested so won't comment on.

When your C++ programs swallowed all available memory, did you blame the
language or the shitty programmer who couldn't code any better?
When I write it, all the bugs are my own bugs. I always trust my
compiler unconditionally . It's just not possible for a compiler to
produce buggy code. They're written by professionals, after all.
And how, spefically, does JavaScript or AJAX have any bearing on why
your script can't read your XML? AJAX isn't a 'black box', it's a new
name for an old design paradigm. It isn't a thing, or a bit of
software, it's 4 words (or three words and an acronym).
Oh, it's harder, trust me. I'm so new at this I can only think of one
example, where typo in a server script generated an error message
instead of the JS code I wanted to eval(). Normally, I would have seen
the error message. In this case, it just didn't work. All the JS
console in FF would tell me was that it was an error in the function
that made the call. So I did it another way that didn't use eval().

"doc, it hurts when I do this"
"then don't do that"
"but then how am I gonna..."
And that is a new problem? It certainly isn't unique to AJAX (or any web
technology), though the web does present different issues.

Yes, and it's different from much of the past web programming
experience. Normally, when everything happens in a script on a page,
you can put debugging statements that e.g. pop up an alert() or
whatever. Normally, your server generates a page that you can examine.

This new thing (I don't like the term AJAX) is what I've always wanted;
to be able to request a chunk of content from the server, instead of a
whole document. It's an obvious thing to do. It's amazing it's taken so
long to be discovered.

i wrote an app using ajax.net and i'm told that the hosting outfit wants $10 to set up the dll PLUS $10 every month to 'maintain it because it's a custom dll'. i've stated to look at atlas, but it looks like it's still in beta. can anybody confirm this?

I am using VS2008 pro but set my project to use dotnet 2.0. It (VS2008) came with ajax and I didnt have to download ajax like I did with VS2005. I just switched to dotnet 3.5 in the configuration manager and all I see are the same 6 items under "ajax" that were there with 2.0. I expected to see some more stuff especially tooltips with clickable links. OK, I went to that ajax dotnet site and can download a toolkit but they suggest one...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
