where to learn java

Hi Dudes

I would really like to learn the basics of Javascript. I understand how it
works, but a couple of years down the track, I am still not sure about its
basic syntax. Does anyone know a place where I can find out more about this
(preferable a website)?

Thank you

If you know any C-like languages, then there isn't much to learn with
regards to syntax. In fact, there isn't much syntax to learn full-stop.
Most of your learning will be directed towards the unique features of the
language and how to script properly for the Web.

Personally, I don't trust Web tutorials. Even those that have been
"recommende d" generally aren't well written. I only trust references, so
only the standard links from me.

For now, you can only see Netscape's JavaScript reference via the Wayback
Machine as DevEdge is dead.
<URL:http://web.archive.org/web/20040211210156/devedge.netscap e.com/library/manuals/2000/javascript/1.5/reference/>
Replace the last path component, "reference" , with "guide" to read, well,
you know...

Of course, the best reference for accuracy is the ECMA-262 Standard, but
that's probably too technical for brushing up on syntax, especially as
you'll have to read the formal grammar.

If you have specific questions, just ask them. I'd certainly be happy to
help.

Well, the first thing you need to know is to NOT call JavaScript, Java,
unless you want to get flamed. :)

This is a good site:

I *strongly* disagree. Not only is it outdated, but parts of it are
factually wrong, plain and simple.

I have read many of the topics on learning C++ or Java first. It seems like everyone says something different. I would like to know if I should learn C++ or Java. First a little about myself. I know PHP, BASIC, and of course HTML. I'll be 15 years old in September. I am interested in programming GUI applications. I am also interested in programming games. I know that I should learn C++ to program games, but would learning Java make the...

I am giving some thought to applying for some jobs that want people with Java and C++ experience. I have been writing Java for several years and am fluent enough that I don't have to get help with Java very often. I have no real C++ experience and not much C experience for that matter. However, the core Java statements are "borrowed" from C and C++ has often been called "C with classes". It seems to me that it shouldn't take very long to...

I need some help in furthering my education in OOP. I have developed a set of PHP scripts that I use in a fairly sophisticated database driven website, but I am not proud of the rather amateurish programming that I used to create the functionality. Although I use classes and objects to organize my data and their related functions, it seems to be only marginally better than plain procedural programming. For example, I do not use...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers.
