border-style for <select>

hello,

is there any chance to shape borders of a <select>-field?

i tried

select {
background-color:#eee;
border:1px solid red;
}

but this doesn't work - and even looks different in IE and firefox/mozilla.

is there any chance to style these borders?
greetings,
matt

Not really. This may work in some browser or operating systems while it
will definitely fail in other browsers or operation systems.

Many browser are just using controls of the operating system for form
elements like <select>. And depending of the operating system, it may
not be possible to modify borders, colors fonts etc. of such controls
(if you've ever seen the controls or MacOSX, you'll probably understand
why this is so).

It's even possible that a browser is able to modify the borders of some
form elements (like text fields, or <select> when it is rendered as list
box) while it is unable to do this on other elements (like radio bottons
or <select> wehn it is rendered as popup button).

Hello! I am back with another question. Remember I am a new JavaScript student and I am aware that this code does not check for all the possibilities and that as a "NEW" JavaScript student I am not expected to check for everything. At any rate, the problem I am having with the following code is that it does not clear the fields once I press the SEND button. So can anyone here enlighten me as to what is causing the problem.

Hi, I 'wrote' my own DataGrid, using the normal DataGrid, and overriding some of the DataGridTextBoxColumn-methods (mostly the Paint-method). I based most of my changes on the Windows Form FAQ: - http://www.syncfusion.com/FAQ/WindowsForms/FAQ_c44c.aspx#q745q - http://www.syncfusion.com/FAQ/WindowsForms/FAQ_c44c.aspx#q758q - http://www.syncfusion.com/FAQ/WindowsForms/FAQ_c44c.aspx#q837q Basicly it works like this: Every time a cell has...

Hi, I have had to invent a work-around to get past what looks like a JavaScript bug, the malfunctioning Perl-like JavaScript array functions including SPLICE() and UNSHIFT(). I have boiled it down to a very simple test case which can be cut-n-pasted into a .html file and viewed in a browser: ============================================================================

I'm having problems formatting a date retrieved from mysql database. When I retrieve the date it's in the format YYYY-MM-DD. I need to split the Day, Month and Year portions of the date up so that I can represent them in a drop down menu. I've posted my source code below, such as it is. I need a function of some kind to allow me to manipulate the $row. #connect to mysql $conn = @mysql_connect( "host", "username", "password" )...

Hello everyone, I am new in PHP-programming but I am learning the basics of it. I've got a script that uploads a picture together with all data from the inputform, to the server and places the pathname into the Mysql. I desperately want to have the uploaded pictures resized in the meantime. Does anyone know how to do this ? Or perhaps adjust the script with the functions, necessary for resizing ? I would appreciate it VERY VERY much !...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
