Hi,
is it possible to show the bullets in a list (ul), although it is
possitioned as an inline element?

Greetings,

In CSS only elements that are display: list-item (the default for
<li>) have automatic bullets. As soon as you change that to display:
inline; the bullets vanish. The same applies if you make the <li>s
block elements, either via display: block; or via float.

The following will not work in Internet Explorer, but will work in
Opera and Mozilla:
li:before {content: "\25A0\20"; }

(In theory using display: marker; and marker-offset: removes the need
for the space \20 in the above, but support is lacking.)

For IE you'll need to include the bullet in the actual content of the
<li>, which leads to double bullets when CSS is disabled, or use a
background image:

li {padding-left: 15px; background: url(bullet.gif) no-repeat;}

I am presently trying to display a list of items INLINE using an image as a seperator..... and having difficulties.... See below for 3 seperate sets of html and css files. Each set does something different. Ideally I would like the result of Menu 1 but instead of having the pipe effect border on the right of each choice I would like to replace that with an image of some sort. Any help much appreciated.

Greetings the group! I see from a few previous postings that I am not the only person having a problem with hidden list item bullets. This question applies to both IE 6, current version, and Firefox 0.8 browsers, which I am using for testing. I have a design in progress that uses a relatively positioned, left-floated, 122px wide navbar, with the main content padded to the right by 10px, wrapping under after it exceeds the height of the...

When using {list-style: none} to hide the bullets in a <ul>, the bullets disappear but they are still accounted-for when positioning text. Specifically, I have: <div style='text-align: center'> <ul style='list-style: none> <li>...</li> <li>...</li> <li>...</li>

A relatively common piece of CSS is to style a list to be displayed in-line: li { display: inline; } However this also removes any bullets from the <li>s, as they're no longer "list items". Is there are way to style a list to be both in-line, _and_ with bullets on each item?

Hi, I'm having a problem with the bullets lining up correctly with text in each <li>. If there is only one line of text, the bullet matches. But if there are two lines of text or more, the bullet moves south and doesn't line up right in IE. It works in other browsers... but no IE. How can I fix this? Here is the link: http://www.deborahbrakeley.com/back-pre.html as well as the other pages under the Background Section. Thanks.... Alex

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
