Greetings the group!
I see from a few previous postings that I am not the only person having a
problem with hidden list item bullets. This question applies to both IE 6,
current version, and Firefox 0.8 browsers, which I am using for testing.
I have a design in progress that uses a relatively positioned, left-floated,
122px wide navbar, with the main content padded to the right by 10px,
wrapping under after it exceeds the height of the navbar. Everything looks
fine, except when it comes to ordered and unordered list items. The bullet
dots, or decimal numbers are hidden inside the navbar, by approximately
15px. I have managed to push them back into the content area by applying
this inline style to the UL and OL tags: <ul style="margin-left:70px;
padding-left:70px">. This pushes the bullets into the main content area by
about 12 px from the edge of the navbar. Is this the correct fix, or is
there a better method?
I even tried wrapping the lists inside a blockquote, to no avail. There was
no right offset added. I can get the lists to display normally if I add a
<div style="clear:le ft"> or <br clear="left">, before the list starts, but
this defeats the design by dropping the lists entirely under the navbar.
I notice that with this fix the list items that should wrap under the navbar
do not, but are offset about 132px to the right, all the way to their end,
whereas paragraphs and headings float to the left edge. If I remove the
margin and padding the list items that have passed the navbar do go close to
the left edge of the body. This tells me that list items are being
positioned relative to the left edge of the html and body, rather that the
containing DIV. Is this correct? Is there a workaround to make lists behave
like other floated block items?
Thanks in advance

Thanks Mark;
Here are two URLs:
The first is for the unaltered list codes page, where the bullets are
hidden: http://ns.pnet-server6.net/~wizcraft...ems_page1.html
and the second has my margin-left:70px; padding-left:70px applied to the
master UL tags, which shows the bullets: http://ns.pnet-server6.net/~wizcraft/

I have a div floated left for a navbar, with another div in the normal
flow for content, like so:
#leftnav { float: left; width: 120px; }
#content { margin-left: 170px; margin-right: 10px;}
What I'd like is for my left nav to always stay in a fixed size and
position, and my content to size dynamically to fit the window. This
mostly works for that, except that if the content contains a table
wider than the content div, the table gets...

When using {list-style: none} to hide the bullets in a <ul>, the bullets
disappear but they are still accounted-for when positioning text.
Specifically, I have:
<div style='text-align: center'>
<ul style='list-style: none>
<li>...</li>
<li>...</li>
<li>...</li>

I have a page at http://www.develop.check.com.au/hols/ where I'm
trying to put a navigation strip on the left of the page. Try as I
may, I can't get rid of the bullets and move the list over to the
left.
The HTML is:
<ul>
<li><a href="area.html?a=ah">Alexandra Headland</a></li>
<li><a href="area.html?a=ca">Caloundra</a></li>

Hi
I am trying to create a bulletted list that has a colored background.
The follow css code successfully applies the background color to the list
items, but for some reason does not apply the background color to the bullets.
The disk.gif image is a 10px by 10px bullet graphic.
<style type="text/css">
#menu ul{
font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;

1. If you do a "View Source", you'll see that there are 4 unordered
lists in the footer yet they are not displaying in the browser
(Firefox or IE). Why?
2. Once I do manage to fire out the above, you can see that two middle
borders do not extend the same depth as the first or fourth. This
must be related to the fact that the first and fourth list have two
items each while the second and third...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
