Why are Svalbard or Åland seen as separate

The Channel Islands are not a region of the UK.
Politically I'd agree, but they're represented as such in the UN list.

GB is from the ISO 3166-1-alpha-2 code, which is different

One would think that the UK has representation in ISO and carries more
political weight over its own name than e.g. Taiwan. I wonder what the
real story is.
I used to have neighbours who would preach in all seriousness that it
was because of a Masonic Conspiracy between the UN (Whore of Babylon)
and the EU (the swift handjob of Brussels). Antrim could be awfully
like Tennessee at times.

My comment was merely that Jukka had picked a hole in what Ubi had

lead to an interesting discussion.
No, it doesn't, does it? Oddly when I made a similar comment in the
cited thread, your response was quite different.

Why hold Jukka to a behavioral standard that you yourself can't be
bothered to maintain?
Maybe you should try looking for "rhetorical question"?
Sure: and while I'm doing that, why don't you take a go at looking up
"hypocrite" .

I want to make a list like http://www.rs-data.at/martin/ausgabe.html. People can enter the data at http://www.rs-data.at/martin/eingabe.html (doesn't work yet). This is a list when competitions for a certain game start. The green and red light should start flashing 10 minutes before the cup starts. But the problem I have: The guys who start the server for a competiton might be in different countries. So how can I figure out when the...

I have Countries in a drop-down list. Any countries with more than one word are not captured properly in form variables. Only the first word is captured to the variable. So, for instance, if 'British Virgin Islands' is selected, only 'British' is captured to the form variable. Any thoughts on why this is happening? Thanks,

Hi There! I'm trying to create a User Registration page in ASP.NET and wondering what is the best way to get the list of up-to-date Countries and Cities? Are there any Web Services on the web that I can use to retrieve such information? If not, what are the options? Please, any suggestions and pointers will be very much appreciated! Dave

Hi! It's me again with my silly questions. Does .Net framework 1.1 hold any list of all the countries in the world/region? I'm deveolping a windowsform and I need to list all available countries in a combox or listview in the specific language. I rather don't want to add all countries by hand (stored in a MS SQL Server) and in different languages.

I want to get an opinion on some .aspx logic. Say for isntance you have a user data submission form that amongst other things is gathering STATE and COUNTRY information of which appear in a dropdownlist. If one is already using both an .aspx page and is using a SQLserver database, why not just place these two lists into a table instead of an array (common in simple HTML pages using CGI) for the STATES and an awefully-long-often-changing...

Hi all, I'm analyzing some data that has a lot of country data. What I need to do is sort through this data and output it into an excel doc with summary information. The countries, though, need to be sorted by region, but the way I thought I could do it isn't quite working out. So far I can only successfully get the data alphabetically. Any ideas?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
