Looking For A Complete Working Code For A Vertical Tool Bar.

7 New Member
Hello To All,
This forum is cool!
I’m in the process of building a better web site http://www.chrisscoral s.com
On the left frame "Left side of the page" I need a complete working vertical scrollbar in either html code, or java script.
I'm out of room and need to expand down but viewers cannot see past my links.

What can I do? I used some codes like the buttons and making links but the vertical scroll bar doesn’t show.

If you have any tips on how to make my site better please let me know.
Thanks for your time
Chris.

In my opinion I think you should change everything that flashes. When I see bright flashing lights I think pop-ups.

There are two problems you may have to deal with on your own. One is the use of frames. The second is using flash. For what you have, flash is overly complicated when it can be all be done with html and css.

Thanks for your info.
On my site you don't have to worry about popups. Do you think that the flashes take the effect of the page? If so did you see where you could turn the flash on and off?

Do you like that effect? Or is it too much of a hassle.

Would it be better to have the flashing stop while the page is loading? That would allow viewers to turn the flash on if they want it on.

What do you think about the hovering pictures any ideas or are they fine.
I want this site to stand out from other competitive sites. Is there anything else I should add?

Dose any one have a code for the vertical bar that would allow a scroll bar on the right side of the left frame?

If any one is familiar with Dream Weaver there is an additional add-on you can purchase. This allows people to build shopping carts. If I read the page right you can customize your own shopping cart. If any one has already, or is looking into purchasing this add-on please make a post.

Thanks for all the post,
Chris

Chris,
Let me try to clarify, you are using Macromedia Flash for some simple graphics (your splash page) and buttons. You also are using marquees and changing the colors of the scroll bar. Most of this annoys users. You can achieve a great looking web site without using flashy buttons and marquees.

BTW You live close to me just noticed that with your 859 area code ;)

I also have a comment on your design if you don't mind... sorry If I may sound harsh.. people have complained that about me In school when we did peer critiques but I just want to help...

There are too many different colors, and too much animation. It might crash/slow down lower-end computers with all the Flash and JS, and I didn't really notice your products because of the noise that the rest of the page generates.

And I agree about using html and css is much better than a lot of client-side scripting. While I do do some client-side scripting such as Ajax, a simple html/css page is often more effective. Also, the scroll bar will only work in Internet Explorer. Each has their own style and preference, so in the end it's up to the client/designer/supervisor/etc. And of course, this is just my opinion.

I don't mind showing you samples of some of the stuff I did, just PM me if you like.

As for the shopping cart, I would prefer to let a third party handle the creditcard and other secure transactions. I wouldn't want to have the liability of something like that. Even if you have https, you never know what may happen. I'm no security expert, so that's just another opinion.

Well I'm still working on coming up a code for the Vertical Bar.

I'm looking for more ideas to make this site better. If you know of any good web sites what do you think?

Also I just started up another web site. www.besmartadve rtiseonline.com
There are over 2000 people on this site throughout the day. If you have any ideas let me know. I want to make this site stand out. I was thinking of adding an extra button, and post some java script games.
Don't worry about being mean I want viewers on this site to judge every aspect on the sites.
Dose any one know the code on how to upload their banners to a my advertising web page? This would enable viewers to upload their banner automatically, that way they don't have to worry about sending it as an attachment through email.
I'm trying to make both sites to where customers don't have to do much stuff.
Thanks again,
Chirs

Chris,

I'm going to be blunt. Please don't read on if that's going to be a problem. :)

The coral is gorgeous, but it's utterly overpowered by everything else on the site. The CORAL is what you should highlight!

You've got an incredibly bright blue background band that is repeated down the page. It has seams every few inches. Your logo is swooshing around until it's completely illegible. There is a scrolling ticker in the left nav bar and another two in the main content frame. Others have already mentioned the flash and the frames.

SIMPLIFY! The way to attract customer is not by making them seasick! :) It's by making the site pleasant, tasteful, easy to navigate--and to show off the PRODUCT, not the latest coding trick you learned. :)

Honest, these folks know what they are talking about.

Have you every seen a TV show where they do beauty makeovers and they've got some woman on who has REALLY long, scraggly hair that makes her look horrible. And even though she has the most expensive hairdresser on the planet giving her the makeover hairdo, she won't take his advice to cut it because her hair is, well, just so darn long? So she ends up walking away looking only marginally better than she came in?

I'm not tagging you here, but I see this in forums all the time. Someone comes in with all sorts of craziness on their web site and asks for input. Everyone, universally, gives the same advice about how to improve the site, but the poster won't follow any of the advice because they are so attached to all the "cool" stuff they put into the site that makes is "stand out."

I hope that doesn't describe you, because I think the coral is a wonderful product that deserves to be seen. Your responses just seemed to skim over the advice and go back to your original position. A cleaner site will serve you better. :)

Hello To All,
I want to take the time to thank everyone on this site who made a comment.
I wanted input and now I have it. I will remove most of all the animation. I too agree that the simpler it is the better for viewers.

Thanks for all you done.

What’s the best site to use the animated flash on? Is it on gaming sites? I want to make this site professional. Is there any way I could make the seams increase so you don't see a seam at all?

So are people able to view the left side with a scroll bar? I understand most codes it codes like these I don't understand. Is there a good code site on web?
Thanks,
Chris

Chris, I'll give you my last 4¢ and then I'll slink away into never never land. As I said before, it kind of seems as if you've already decided what you want to do, and all the advice to the contrary is being ignored.

What’s the best site to use the animated flash on?
Why do you WANT to use flash? The input so far has been to get rid of flash. You don't NEED it. I suggest that you simplify and then if you NEED to do something you can't do, consider flash. (And by "need" I don't mean, make a swirly logo thingee.)

I want to make this site professional.
The assumption may be wrong, but it seems you are under the impression that using some fancy technology or having things jump around on the screen is the way to look "profession al"--perhaps because the technology is newer or more, I don't know, MTVish? The best way to do that is to make your site clean and usable.

Compare it to business attire. Which is more professional:

business suit in a neutral color with conservative shoes and hair
or
cobalt blue, sequined gown with bright green eye shadow and multi-color, flashing Christmas ornaments in your hair?

Sure, there is room for fun, but make it meaningful fun--fun that SERVES the reader, not just the desire to show you know how to make text scroll or logos rush through the cosmos.

Is there any way I could make the seams increase so you don't see a seam at all?
Yes, get rid of it. No seams! :) Again, why do you want to use an overpowering background? What PURPOSE does it serve--other than to make the text hard to read and the coral seem less impressive?

So are people able to view the left side with a scroll bar?
Not sure what you mean, but if you're talking about having both frames scroll (the nav area AND the content area) then why make it a pain for readers? Why not get rid of the frames, like everyone said?

BTW, I tried shrinking my screen and the navbar just gets lost in my browser.

Is there a good code site on web?
Hundreds. Just google HTML. :)

Good luck. I'm slinking away.

Hi, Hopefully this is not too much offtopic. I'm working on a FAQ. I want to make two versions of it, plain text and HTML. I'm looking for a tool that will make a plain text doc out of the HTML doc. The HTML version doesn't have anything fancy, just internal links. So the tool must be able to delete internal links and anchors from the HTML version, but leave external links in simplified form. That is, the HTML version would say <a...

I've almost completed a small project with MS SQL 2000 server in the BE and Access 2003 in the FE. 5 concurrent users, 30 tables, 35 forms and subforms, 13 reports. Not so happy in the beginning as soon as Access Event Model was shown (Crappy at minimum, even compared with not-anymore-existant tools), very unhappy when the project is almost completed. Main concerns: - User interface VERY slow (UI redraw on not so complex forms, don't...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
