Yes, me again.
There are so many tutorial websites, on all things not just CSS, with
the information scattered in so many ways that it's difficult to keep
track. I have bookmarks galore for css sites, but when I want to look
something up I don't know where to start. Which site DID I see that
snippet on?
So, I want a book on my shelf. You know the thing; paper, with fixed
margins, fonts and font sizes that a user can't change and that can't
be resized without breaking it. :)
If you could only have one book to teach someone how to use CSS today,
which one would you, the real developers of the world, use?
Thanks muchly.

Hi,
I'm looking to purchase a book on javascript for beginners although I do
have a programming background. I've seen some suggestions for "JavaScript:
The Definitive Guide", but the latest edition (4th edition) was published in
Dec. 2001. I'm a little concerned that it may be somewhat out of date??
Amazon also ranks "JavaScript & DHTML Cookbook" fairly high on it's list of
javascript books.
Any suggestions or thoughts are...

Hi,
I am a very experienced C++ Win32 programmer using VS 7.1. Are there
any recommendations for C# books that assume no prior C# knowledge, but
will not require me to slog through a lot of novice stuff about OOP and
basic programming techniques that I am already familiar with?
Thanx in advance.

I am starting a new project that will use .Net VS with C# and be programming
a lot of Web Services. We will do most of the programming in 2003, but I
would prefer to get a 2005 book to stay current.
Any reccomendations on the best books for these technologies?

Something for a beginner to advanced, with good code/design practice. Prefer
VB.NET.
seems most of them are out dated?

Most applications whose purpose is to work with various types of files
implement a "Most Recent Files" list, where the last, say, four files
accessed by the application can quickly be re-opened by clicking on
the file name in the File menu. Thist list is usually just above the
typical Exit menu item.
I take it there is no "automatic" way of implementing this, that each
application has to have code that manually does this. I have a good...

Hello everyone, I keep obtaining an error message whenever I execute some
very simple routines; the error that follows says that I am calling
certain functions that, in reality, I am not calling from any of the
routines that I wrote:
error:

Crockford's JavaScript, The Good Parts (a book review).
This shall perhaps be the world's shortest book review (for one of the
world's
shortests books).
I like Douglas Crockford (because I am a crabby old man too; plus he
_is_
smart and good).. But, how can he write a book on the good parts of
JavaScript
and not mention functions that address CSS & DOM? Weird. It's like

I Learned Python using "Core Python Programming" written by Wesley J.

I found it to be really good, it starts by introducing the key concepts
in the early chapters and then goes over each concept more in depth in
the later chapters. The second part of the book has advances topics,
like DB, network, RegEx, GUIs, etc. He'll need minimal OOP concepts
though to grasp...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
