Breaking glass effect...

164 New Member
Hey guys, I am having one heck of time trying to pull this off so it looks good.

I searched around some of my favorite tutorial sites and couldn't find a THING on this. Not even an example..

I did find this, which is where I started to work on it myself from
http://www.effectmaker.com/gallery/brokenglassimage/

Nothing special.. I wanted something a bit more REAL looking. I got this
<Broken Link Removed>

I know its nothing special but I needed to start somewhere..

What I want the end result to be is..
clicking on image, and then a crack starts from one corner (que glass noise) and light beams start to emit from the cracks.. then it all shatters.

I feel I am in a bit over my head but I would like to overcome my first big obstacle in flash. I have been working with it for a while and understand a pretty good amount to hold a good thread convo, so ANY help would awesome, any links to tutorials for ideas, etc. etc.

Thanks everyone!

Are you looking for a dynamic effect that you can apply to loaded images at runtime?

Or a one off transition?

Just a one off transition. The image that I want this effect to apply to will rarely change.

Then to get the kind of impact you're looking for I would use a package like SWIFT 3D, After Effects or 3D Studio Max. All these programmes import into flash and will create the kind of complex lighting effects you want.

Here's an after effects tutorial to get you started and a plug in 3D lighting effect. I imagine you're trying to get an effect similar to Lost World were the vehicle goes over the edge and the glass is cracking?!

So before you use the shatter effect, you might want to animate some cracks in Flash and import them into AE. Then use a glow effect first on the cracks to make the light start appearing. Then when it shatters fire up your lighting effect to get the rays.

This is a complex effect and I might take a week to learn and complete. So good luck!

If you have any PHP scripts which will not work in the current releases due to breaks in backwards compatibility then take a look at http://www.tonymarston.net/php-mysql/bc-is-everything.html and see if you agree with my opinion or not. Tony Marston http://www.tonymarston.net

I have an image of an object which I display on a form. I'd like to use GDI+ to display a gradually-fading reflection of this image (on a white or coloured background) underneath so that the effect is like the object sitting on a glass table. Any idea how I'd achieve this ?

I am now trying to host a WPF control into a MFC application and get the Aero glass look on the WPF control. (Something like what Office2007 is doing to its ribbon) What should be the container of the WPF control so that I can get Aero Glass look? I tried with a System.Windows.Window, I got the Aero Glass look. But it seems that a Window must be the root element and can not be hosted in the MFC window. I also tried to use a...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
