What does the (desktop) after excel mean. Having trouble opening xls files with 2013 Excel and keep getting asked if I want to use excel(desktop) to open - which doesn't.

First open your excel . go to file open and point to the .xls file you wish to view click the open button. Excel should ask you to update or convert the file to a newer version and display it for you

Which version of Windows are you using? And is it in any "unusual" environment, e.g. a virtual machine?

"Open .Net Command Window Here" context menu for Windows Explorer: The reg file described below adds a new menu item to Windows Explorer's context menu when you right-click over a folder (or the drive root). The menu item text is "Open .Net Command Window Here". When you click it, it opens a command window positioned at that directory and runs the vsvars32.bat file to set the .Net Framework environment variable settings. This makes it...

I need to search a folder & sub-folders for key words in ASP files... I can open the files with Notepad and see the text string there... But when I try to navigate to the folder with Windows Explorer, right click and 'search for word in file' ... it reports back that the text string was not found. I've fooled around with the 'advanced' settings but can't seem to make it work... even when I'm searching a single folder with a single...

NEWSGROUP: This is a followup to the post below. The original post was helpful and I now know many ways to RETRIEVE information from Windows explorer, but I haven't yet found a way to INSERT or UPDATE values into the comments or titles fields. If someone knows how VB.Net can INSERT or UPDATE column values in windows explorer that will be very helpful. Thanks,

I'd love to be able to open up a windows folder, like c:\temp, so that it pops up visually. I know how to drill down into a directory, but I can't figure out how to open one up on screen. Would I have to make a call to windows explorer in a similar way that I hit Excel with: from win32com.client import Dispatch Excel = Dispatch("Excel.Application") Any clues?

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers.
