Up until now, ive done all my C++/C programing on linux. I'd like to write a small chat type program for a friend of mine. I understand windows networking in C/C++ is slightly different. Does anyone know of any good website/tutorials or simple networking examples, that would highlight the differences for me? I havent really tried or read much about it yet, but from what i understand, the main difference is just that you import some...

Hi! I'm currently a HS sophomore who has passed the California High School Proficency Exam, and will be starting Cerritos College soon --I'll get my AA in Mathematics/Economics; I'll then transfer to UCLA's Mathematics/Economics major, and try to transfer into MIT's Applied Mathematics major and the Economics minor for my senior year --wishful thinking, I know-- --, and I hope to become a proprietary trader for a hedge fund after...

I'm looking for a C++ library for wireless networking that will work on such platforms as Windows, Linux, Solaris, Mac OS. Has anyone here got experience with this? Can you recommend a library please? (BTW I've been told to stay away from the Microsoft library because it's very restrictive on what you can do as regards assigning MAC addresses and enabling monitor mode; is this true?) -- Tomás Ó hÉilidhe

(I have posted this separately to comp.lang.c++ and comp.lang.c, reason being that I'd like a response from both communities, but I haven't cross-posted it because I think it's best not to mix C and C++ discussion) I want to get into doing some network programming. I'd like to find a good cross-platform networking library, but failing that, I'd settle for something that'll work on Linux. I don't mind whether the libary is C or whether...

I used WordPress for a prior blog, but now have my website on ASP.Net 2.0 using MS SQL Server. I'd like to actually have an equivalent blog (easy to set up, easy to add entries to for the family). Does anyone have recommendations on an equivalent package that they like? Thanks. Tim

I'm currently writing a program and I've got in mind to keep it as portable as possible. In particular I want it to run on Linux and Windows, but I'm also keeping an open mind to any machine that has a screen and is capable of Ethernet networking. The program requires three things that aren't available in the C Standard: 1) Coloured text (for a console application) 2) Raw socket networking 3) Multithreading For number 1, I've already...

With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
