Printing Preferences and Printing Defaults properties of a printer

If I look at the properties of a printer I can find two things:
Printing Preferences and Printing Defaults.

I believe the preferences apply to my apps and the defaults apply to all
users.

In a dotnet app:

Which does the DefaultPageSett ing relate to?

Which does the PrinterSetting relate to?

Can I from the App change the Preferences?

Can I from the App change the Defaults?
Thanks in advance

Hi, I am trying to programmatically print a pdf file via an asp.net application. I have seen other postings that mention the following code used or something similar to it in a vb.net app. Process.Start("C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe", "/p /h ""C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Help\ENU\ACROBAT.PDF""")

I am finding that some of the properties off of the PrinterSettings object are misleading For example, When I test the CanDuplex on a printer I know duplexes, the property is false. Another one is DefaultPrinter, it is set to false when I know that I have that printer set as default (I verify via the "Printers and Fax" applet Can anyone confirm or explain TIA

Admission first - I don't actually have a problem here but have noticed that a lot of people have been asking similar questions and getting very varied answers. What I've done is to sort of "compile the questions" into a theoretical problem to see what people think should be done to solve it. Maybe it will be a worthwhile discussion, but more importantly maybe it will find out the very best way to sort this kind of problem out so that...

Well I am coding an application using C# for my company which requires multiple printing of Crystal Report Docs & Word Docs, at a specific Printer of the installed Printers in the network, at a specific tray and some more settings too. since I'm trying with the network printer I've installed a local driver using the local port as suggested by one of the MS support site. The definition of the Printer & Tray is happening from the code...

I am trying to programmatically change printing preferences (not printer settings). For example, preferences specific to a printer like watermark or pages per sheet. I have tried using the PrintDocument.PrinterSettings class, but it only exposes the basic printer settings. I have been able to use SystemManagement.ManagementObject.Properties to expose additional printer settings, but I can't seem to find the preferences. Anyone know how...

Hello all! I'm at my wits end trying to search for what I assumed to be a relatively straightforward task. I have a Web application written in C#, and I have a button on the form that I want to print the current contents of the browser without bringing up the print dialog. At first I thought it was a simple matter to have the button's "onclick" attribute set to "window.print();". However, that always brings up the print dialog box. ...

I am trying to print huge images (much bigger than target paper). I try and use e.PageSettings.HardMarginX and e.PageSettings.HardMarginY in the PrintDocument's PrintPage event to try and determine the maximum area that I can print on. However, the edge of the image invariably gets cut off, as if the HardMargin info is wrong. I posted the code below as I can't understand what I am doing wrong. Is information in e.PageSettings reliable?...

Re: Access 2003 My client has a printer that can print single-sided or double-sided. The default settings for this printer in Windows is double-sided printing for the bulk of their work. Their Access app has two reports, and they want Report1 to always print single-sided and they want Report2 to always print double-sided. I checked the preferences in "Page Setup" for each independent report

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
