I am trying to allow a user to view a PDF in a new window. I
currently have this working using the following:
<a href="./pdf.do?parameter=01121980" target="top"><b>pdf</b></a>
The problem with the above solution is the back/forward buttons and
all the other browser options. Because of this, I am trying to get
the following solution to work:

I have an ASP page that is sent a file location as a parameter. It opens
this file, loads the ADODB.Stream object and does a binary write to the page
forcing the download dialog to appear. This all works fine. If the user
selects "Open" or "Cancel", the window closes, which is the desired behavior.
If they select "Save", the location dialog shows up, they save the file and
the window remains open. I've tried a number of things to get...

Allowing download of file types that will display in a browser is no
problem, but how about files types that don't display? I would like my
clients to be able to click on a link that will start a download or any type
of file. Try searching on "download"! Of course this has to be server side -
I can't expect my clients to have to install something at there end. Thanks.

Jeessh, a lot of people have my email address.
I have received about 500 copies of the worm in the last 24 hours. My
mail spool at work was sooooo full I couldn't get out or relay or
anything. The wierd part is that it's my work address, and I'm
subscribed to almost all my lists through the address above or my
previous home address. YEARS ago I was using the work address for lists,
but not for a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG time....

As many of you know, I occasionally get messages from the MS team on
various things. Today I got the following, and (personally) I think
it certainly is worthy of passing on.
If you haven't protected yourself from the sasser worm, GET THE HECK
OFF THE NET!! <Grin>
No, seriously, get the patch. And a firewall. Even one of the free
personal ones like Zome Alarm or Outpost or whatever, and then
hopefully, someday, all this ......

downloads _only the headers_, and if you have specified the delete (/d) switch
