Detecting a network connection

Hello -

I'm writing an application that will be used on "sometimes connected"
devices (laptops, tablets).

In C#, what is the best way to detect whether a network connection is
present? I'd rather not rely on a network request timing out - the detection
process must be very quick.

Thanks in advance,
Scott

Try System.Windows. Forms.SystemInf ormation.Networ k. It is, of course,
true when a network connection is present.

Use WMI, like so:

using System;
using System.Manageme nt;
using System.Windows. Forms;

namespace Tests {
public class NetworkProbe {
public static void Main(string []args) {
ObjectQuery objectQuery = new ObjectQuery(
"select * from Win32_NetworkAd apter " +
"where NetConnectionSt atus=2"); // 2 means connected

ManagementObjec tSearcher searcher =
new ManagementObjec tSearcher(objec tQuery);

int connectedNetwor ks = searcher.Get(). Count;

if (connectedNetwo rks > 0) {
Console.WriteLi ne("There are {0} connected network interfaces",
connectedNetwor ks);
} else {
Console.WriteLi ne("There is no network connection present");
}
}
}
}

That should do it,

Hello all, I need to be able to detect if there is an active available Internet connection in my VB6 program. In my program I'm using the Internet Transfer Control to transfer some files by HTTP, but as it stands now, there's no code to detect if there is in fact a network connection available before I try sending. Is there some easy way to do this? Thanks,

Hi, I am using .net remoting technology. I set up a .net remoting client and server in IIS. When the client calls the server, the server will run a long duration method (30-60seconds). I have a test on it that if the network broken at the time the client have already send the remoting request and waiting for the server, the client side will wait infinitely by default, even if i already set the executionTimeout to 90seconds in...

I just discovered that this: Dim searcher As New Management.ManagementObjectSearcher("SELECT NetConnectionStatus FROM Win32_NetworkAdapter") For Each networkAdapter As Management.ManagementObject In searcher.Get() does not work on Win2K to get the network connection status! Does anyone have some samples on how to do this same thing on Win2K? Thanks!

Was wondering if someone could help. Over the last month I've been developing a small database application, using Access 2000, for use in a friends shop. Everything was going well until about a week ago when I started getting the following error when I would click any buttons on my main form that ran either VB code or an Access Macro: "Error accessing file. Network connection may have been lost.". I know for sure it's not a network...

I have a utility that I want to only run when a network connection is present. I want to plan for the situation when someone unplugs their laptop from the network and takes it into another room. My process requires a connection and I don't want it to blow up when one does not exist. I have tried using the "wininet.dll" API, but it still tells me I am connected when I am unplugged from the network. Has anyone else had the

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
