I'm facing a problem where I need to verify that my windows forms application has access to the internet before it can do anything. Currently, the only way I can think of is by creating a HttpWebRequest and point it to the specified URL I wish to connect to later on, and if that throws an error, I know I don't have an internet connection. Is this the best method for detecting an internet connection, or is there some sort of routine that I need...

Hello -
I'm writing an application that will be used on "sometimes connected"
devices (laptops, tablets).
In C#, what is the best way to detect whether a network connection is
present? I'd rather not rely on a network request timing out - the detection
process must be very quick.
Thanks in advance,

There seems to be various methods to determine when the remote client disconnects, but all of them I have seen are Synchronous.
AKA: Right before you try to send or receive data, check.
Is there no way to do raise an event for this? That way you know as soon as the client disconnects?
There are events for Accepting, Connecting, Receiving, Sending... why not one for disconnecting?

I have a utility that I want to only run when a network connection is
present.
I want to plan for the situation when
someone unplugs their laptop from the network and takes it into another
room. My process requires a connection and I don't want it to blow up when
one does not exist.
I have tried using the "wininet.dll" API, but it still tells me I am
connected when I am unplugged from the network. Has anyone else had the

I am using the following code to monitor a socket port. The code normally
works fine unless a network connection is lost. Since both ends of the
conversation on the same computer (normally) this causes a problem because
they can no longer connect. On my system if the network is reconnected the
two system can start communicating again but on other systems I am told they
can not.
One program is a service and the other is the user...

Hi group,
I've written a client/server application, using the dotnet sockets.
In my server, I have a thread waiting for messages with :
ret = currSocket.Receive(buffer, 1024, SocketFlags.None);
When the client exits, I close the socket with a specific message
(like "end") and the thread terminate in a proper manner, but If my
client crashes, the server is still waiting for receiving data, and

Are there events that are fired when I insert the handheld into or I remove
it from the cradle?
*OpenNETCF.Desktop.Communication.ActiveSync* class has *Active* (indicates
that a connection is established between
the client application and the connection manager) and *Inactive* (indicates
a disconnection, or disconnected state, between the
desktop computer and the Windows CE-based device) events, but I don't know
if I can use them:

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
