Hosting Solutions For Full-Text Site

Hi. I have a site that stores files on SQL Server tables (possibility
of a large database) and uses Full-Text Search to search through all
these files. I was wondering, since traffic might be quite large,
what companies normally do in such scenarios. I am fairly good with
programming but machine configuration is not my strong suit.

First, is there a way to host this ourselves? What kind of equipment
would we need for a dedicated server and what kind of connection?
Please describe price ranges if you are familiar with this.

Second, is there a company that can do the dedicated hosting for us
with the features that I detailed, above? We are talking about
hosting a site in which most of the space is taken up by the database
itself rather than a files scattered on the server. Again, please
describe "normal" price ranges.

Any considerations would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you kindly.

Look at Microsoft Small Business Server as it comes with SQL Server and you
can use it to host your own website. You have to buy connectivity like a DSL
or your ownT1 (not so expensive anymore) from some service provider that
will give you at least 1 or more static IPs.

There's all kinds of hosting providers. Microsoft uses Orcsweb for some
things now and then.

Greetings Comrades, Pythonistas! I am looking for guidance on the quick and easiest path to set up a Python wiki. A wiki application idea popped into my head while I was making morning coffee. It's not what I should be thinking about, but I hate to let an interesting idea die an unexplored death. One of the aspects of Python I am enamored with is the ease with which I can explore a idea without overplanning and committing to it (during...

www.shanje.com does sql server hosting, on shared servers, at a reasonable price. It seems. They also allow client connections. Just playing around I've managed to connect an Access Data Project to a SQL Server database, and to access the database from Enterprise Manager (running locally). First of all - what does anybody think of that as a general idea - local client, connecting to MS SQL Server running on a shared host, connecting...

Just in case you were considering this http://www.interland.com/ provides internet accessible MS-SQL dbs packaged with many of their web- hosting plans. I have two such dbs. Interland backs up theses databases daily but does not provide access to theses backups directly.

Sorry if posting this to the wrong group, but do you know of any asp.net hosting vendor with support for Crytal Reports? Apparently they do not exist due to high licensing costs at $25k per cpu. Certainly someone must be offering this? Thanks. -- Jay

Hi I feel as if I'm fighting a loosing battle with shared hosting at the moment. I have an account with 1&1. For a whopping £16.99 a month I get 6GB of shared Microsoft hosting. I also get the ability to have as many domains as I like, 5 web applications and large SQL databases. I'm currently experiencing some difficulties with a website. "Request for the permission of type

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
