recommend a Windows hosting provider?

Hi all,

I'm going to be moving my site to a new hosting provider at the end of
the month.

Can anyone recommend a good windows (.NET) hosting provider?

My requirements are as follows:

- .NET framework installed
- SQL Server included (at least 50MB)
- At least 10 GB of monthly web traffic
- At least 3 GB of space

and a price less than $240/annum

I have brinkster.com currently at the top of my list. Any good/bad
experiences?

Thanks in advance,
Peter

the 3gb of space is the toughie, otherwise I've been using
www.WebHost4Life.com for a while now and it's been very slick. It's like
$10/mo with MS-SQL, Mail, ASP.NET and 300mb, but you can add more space for
relatively cheap.

From what I can gather from the (terribly designed) website, I think
they only have 550 MB of space.. my current account is already 800 MB
full.

I ran into problems with them in terms of billing. When I originally signed
up with them, they were charging something along the lines of $50/month for
hosting and then another charge (~$20/month) for a SQL database. When they
reduced their prices, they made it difficult for me to move to their new,
lower cost plans. Also, when they switched platforms (to BlueHalo or
something like that), I had problems with some lost data.

You're correct about the size constraint (you can purchase an add-on space
to the tune of 100mb/$10). Fortunately, I have smaller websites than you
(800mb is a ton of content). I like them because they focus on Windows
hosting and .NET and SQL (currently, they offer all their users beta asp.net
2.0 setup). I've had few problems with them in three years hosting with them
- once they had to adjust ip addresses because of a dos attack, once they had
to reboot one of the servers because "it was running out of memory". They
have been generally responsive and helpful when I had questions or ran into
problems. They were very much cheaper than other hosting services were a
couple of years ago (not so any more - look at http://www.1and1.com - they
have some pretty cheap plans).

Things that make me scratch my head with them: 1) They are not particularly
ecommerce oriented. I've had to write alot of code to support shopping carts
and online transactions 2) There isn't telephone support - that's made me
nervous at times but they've always been responsive via email. 3) There are
add-ons which I would think should be part of the package - fixed ip address
and ssl certificates. 4) No sharepoint services.

Can someone please recommend a good hosting service that offers a reseller option whereby one can host a whole bunch of domains under one hosting account. There seem to be many offers of reseller hosting at the $50/mo. level on Apache servers using C-Panel but that seems to be a Linux thing where the host header recognition is built into the server OS which doesn't create the problems that it does under Windows where you seem to need a...

I am in the middle of debugging a script that is hanging on "session_start()", which, if I recall, can occur if session.save_path points to a directory onto which you do not have permission to access (I verified and yep, no love on that folder). So I figured I'd simply rewrite session.save_path: <? ini_set('session.save_path', '/path/where/there/is/love'); ?> To no avail, because the shared hosting provider also informed me that

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
