I'm just throwing this question out here as there hasn't been much
discussion recently on the topic of shared hosting. Most people, it seems,
just assume that it's secured. Companies don't sell services that's
insecured by design, right?
Those of us who know better know, of course, that that's not the case. Two
main challenges of sharing a server with other people are hiding your
database login/password and securing session files. Both...

My client has an MS Access database application on her local machine. I have
full access to that in terms of changing the design.
I've got a simple PHP/MySql application on shared hosting, so no direct
access to the db server.
I'd like to give her the facility to export the information in her local
Access application to the shared PHP/MySql site. From one command button (or
similar) in the Access application.

We've been running a database on a shared server. The traffic on our
site has been picking up steadily and it seems as though we're running
into sporadic downtime on the database. Sometimes when we do large
data imports, the transaction log fills up and the schema somehow
fails to truncate it when asked to back it up. So we run the explicit
truncate statement and that usually seems to fix the problem. A few
days ago a single stored...

Greetings to pgsql-general list members,
I am configuring a server for my hosting company on which I would like to
offer postgres shared hosting as an option. Postgres has been installed
already but I'm having difficulty sequestering server access by shared
accounts and generally could use some help in setting this up properly. I
would greatly appreciate any advice from list members who might have
experience doing this on a RH9/Apache...

Hi
I feel as if I'm fighting a loosing battle with shared hosting at the
moment. I have an account with 1&1. For a whopping £16.99 a month I get
6GB of shared Microsoft hosting.
I also get the ability to have as many domains as I like, 5 web applications
and large SQL databases.
I'm currently experiencing some difficulties with a website.

I have run into this problem occasionally, and have crude ways of
getting around it, but I'm wondering if anyone else has a better, more
elegant solution.
I have a web service and a client application that share a class. For
one of my web service methods, for example, I return an object of the
given class type. However, when I try to cast the object in my
client, I run into a namespace conflict. This makes sense to me, but
if I...

I have a really simple test app which consumes two public web services (one
stock quote and one Amazon books collection); it works just fine when
posted on my local servers but when I publish it to either of my two public
servers (shared hosting accounts), I get the .ASPX page ok but when I click
the button to access the web services I get nowhere; more specifically, I
get this message at the top of the stack:
"[SocketException...

Hi,
Having a little issue with .htaccess not working on windows server. I
have clean url's setup using the htaccess file, working fine on linux
server. I have researched for a while and found .htaccess doesn't work
on windows. Since this is a shared hosting i don't have access to
httpd.conf so that i can edit it.
I have been reading this forum about it. http://forum.mambo-foundation.org/showthread.php?t=1857

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
