Shared hosting configuration advice requested

Greetings to pgsql-general list members,

I am configuring a server for my hosting company on which I would like to
offer postgres shared hosting as an option. Postgres has been installed
already but I'm having difficulty sequestering server access by shared
accounts and generally could use some help in setting this up properly. I
would greatly appreciate any advice from list members who might have
experience doing this on a RH9/Apache server, this one having Cpanel
administrative software installed to complicate matters. So as not to
instigate commercial trespass on this list I would welcome private responses
at

dholeman ~at~ alpheta ~dot~ net.

Many thanks in advance,
Don Holeman

My client has an MS Access database application on her local machine. I have full access to that in terms of changing the design. I've got a simple PHP/MySql application on shared hosting, so no direct access to the db server. I'd like to give her the facility to export the information in her local Access application to the shared PHP/MySql site. From one command button (or similar) in the Access application.

1. I have a Base class that has a certain amount of functionality. 2. Then I have a CodeSmith generated class that inherits from the Base class and adds functionality. 3. Since I want to be able to re-generate the classes on level 2 I have a 3rd level that inherits from them and implements specific hand coded methods. 4. My colleague asked me to create a 4th level class that inherits the 3rd level class so he can write custom...

Hi, sometimes ill get this error: FATAL: could not create shared memory segment: Cannot allocate memory DETAIL: Failed system call was shmget(key=2, size=4153344, 03600). HINT: This error usually means that PostgreSQL's request for a shared memory segment exceeded available memory or swap space. To reduce the request size (currently 4153344 bytes), reduce PostgreSQL's shared_buffers parameter (currently 400) and/or its...

Hi, a customer is using our fairly memory intensive web app. in a shared hosting environment and the other day their host 'banned' (I think they just killed the process) them for memory abuse. Our app. has been profiled with SciTech's Mem Profiler, and it seems that some of the issues relate to .NET bugs, but are alleviated by use of System.GC.Collect(). I'm under the impression that it's generally bad form to call this yourself, but at...

I also get the ability to have as many domains as I like, 5 web applications and large SQL databases. I'm currently experiencing some difficulties with a website. "Request for the permission of type

I have a really simple test app which consumes two public web services (one stock quote and one Amazon books collection); it works just fine when posted on my local servers but when I publish it to either of my two public servers (shared hosting accounts), I get the .ASPX page ok but when I click the button to access the web services I get nowhere; more specifically, I get this message at the top of the stack: "[SocketException...

Hi, Having a little issue with .htaccess not working on windows server. I have clean url's setup using the htaccess file, working fine on linux server. I have researched for a while and found .htaccess doesn't work on windows. Since this is a shared hosting i don't have access to httpd.conf so that i can edit it. I have been reading this forum about it. http://forum.mambo-foundation.org/showthread.php?t=1857

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
