What is the difference between C# windows Services and web services
in vs.net? Becuase I have a windows services using http remoting, and
client access it by a http url address, so it looks very similar with
the web services. In this point, the windows services, web services,
and asp.net web site, all are similar, am I right?

yup. not sure why you went the route of a windows service with remoting that
is http addressable over a pure webservice. from an application perspective,
you blurred the lines. nothing inherently wrong about that, just a bit
unconventional

I don't know where is the right place to ask this so I will start here.
Can someone explain to me what these represent? I think they all have to do
with the middleware level, but I really don't understand what a DCOM Server
is or a Microsoft Transaction Server, etc. I have no idea....

I'm new to WebServices, and I'm doing some tests (with a small
VB.NET-application) to know the performance-difference between a WebService
and the 'normal'-way of getting data (just connecting directly with a
SqlDataAdapter to the SQL Server). The WebMethod simply gives a DataSet
back, and does exactly the same actions as the normal-Method does.
The difference are enormous in my opinion:

I am using Windows XP, Tomcat 5.5.17, JRE 1.5.0_08. I am in Australia. For testing localization, my Windows Region is set to English, US.
The Tomcat xml's are set to their install defaults.
When using the Console, tomcat5.exe, my localization files work correctly, returning the Locale, en_US in the string str.
When using Windows Services, the Locale string returned is en.AU with the same code and the Region still set to English, US. ...
