I have an ASP.NET web service that is written in C#. The service is not called using a browser, instead it is called by another thick client C# application.
If my web service throws an exception, the exception is caught by the thick client in C# as expected. The exception text gets displayed in a message box. All this works just fine. However, the problem I am having is that if IIS throws its own excecption that has nothing to do with my service, then the error comes back as HTML. I understand that this would be fine if the service was being called from a browser, but, as I said, the client is another application.
How can I tell IIS to not send these messages back as HTML ?

create a custom error page(s) for your webservice vdir. it should be a valid
soap response.

With the body tag calling out 'window onload', a function with a
'window.open' fails at the 'window.open' line. If I cut out the body
tag, the function executes as normal.
At first I thought it was the entire function failing, but I tested
with alerts and found that it was only the 'window.open' that fails to
execute.

there some type of embed mechanism, sort of the reverse of embedding JS

When I compile my application if there are any .net coding errors they show
up fine in the error list in VS.NET 2005 following my attempt to compile.
However there are also a ton of other errors about the html not being
transitional. I'm not worried about those right now. Is there a way to
suppress those so I only get "real" asp.net errors and not html markup
errors?

web service from a remote machine, one outside of our domain, we get the
error.. ** Client found response content type of 'text/html;

Perhaps I have missed something but what I would like to do is have a more
"controlled" method of generating HTML from a web service.
I can create items using HtmlTable, HtmlTableRow, and HtmlTableCell but is
there a quick method once the table has been built to get the HTML, put it
in a string for return the browser call for the web service?
I notice that HtmlTable does not support InnerHtml so that is not doable.
