I'm looking to learn ASP.NET better and thinking about helping my church
put together a website in order to do this. They need the help, I'd like
the training, so I'm thinking of going this route to solve their needs.
I'm wondering, though, if there are any hosts out there that do domain
hosting that support ASP.NET and database connectivity without charging
you an arm and a leg. And by database connectivity I don't mean Access,
but rather light SQL access. Maybe MySQL, maybe SQL Server with a limit on
space or something. Anyone have a suggestion?

Obviously my experience is a bit different from yours.
Can not comment on SSL and Logs but for the price they charge i got
everything i expected and even more.
When i had a trouble with my ASP.NET App (my stupidity) their staff was able
to pinpoint the problem and i got an answer within an hour.
Never had a problem with setup instructions and control panel.
It might not have OC-48 but again if i needed that bandwidth i would get a
dedicated server anyway.

news:7d******** *********@bigne ws4.bellsouth.n et... Another person's opinion about WebHost4Life -
I think their control panel is so-so: - non-intuitive in a number of areas. If in doubt, look at "email
forwards". - their "canned stats" package is okay for what it is - "you get what we
SAY you can get". Raw logs? Hah. - Web stats should be "private", i.e.- not accessible by the whole world. Your WH4L site stats are wide-open to the anyone. - According to their help desk, web sites are only updated once a day. Shortly after I asked about this, mine started updating twice a day. Certainly never going to get a real-time look and see if the site is quiescent/nearly quiescent to do an update, etc.with the way it is now.
Site Options and Freebies - Oops, guess whose "free shared SSL" doesn't work with ASP.Net??!! - they charge for "Custom 404"
Getting Configured: - the setup instructions they send you via email are wrong, wrong, wrong. - the info on the FAQ about setting up for ftp file transfer is also incorrect.
Support: - open a ticket and keep polling the web site to see if they've DONE anything. They don't notify you when a ticket has been worked. - they close tickets without your verification that the problem has
ACTUALLY been fixed.
Been online for over a month with no problems with the site itself, but it is not as responsive as content d/l'd from ReadyHosting.co m (probably because of the difference between T-3 (WH4L) and OC-48 (ReadyHosting)
trunk connections... I'm thinking seriously about moving to ReadyHosting,
despite their being a little "pricier" (and the 2x differential they charge
between ASP.Net and ASP hosting...)

does sql server hosting, on shared servers, at a reasonable price. It seems.
They also allow client connections. Just playing around I've managed to
connect an Access Data Project to a SQL Server database, and to access the
database from Enterprise Manager (running locally).
First of all - what does anybody think of that as a general idea - local
client, connecting to MS SQL Server running on a shared host, connecting...

At http://www.asp.net/Customers/DisplayByIndustry.aspx?IndustryId=27, there
are hundred of ASP.NET hosting companies.
Can you suggest one or a couple of good ones?
I'm looking to build a small Web site (for fun only). Might not even need a
database, but if there is SQL Server, that would be great. The cheaper, the
better. Free would be great, but I do want FTP access. Being able to upload
from VS.NET would be great too, but not...

Hi,
I'm interested in registering my domain name but I'm not sure which company
I'll choose to host my site.
Is it possible to just register my name at one company (I was thinking of
www.whois.com) and then search for another company that'll host my site?
My main concern is reserving the name so I have exclusive rights to it.
Thanks,
VM

Do you guys have any idea if web hosting companies usually give access to
SQL Server databases through Enterprise Manager?
I used to have have access to my DB through EE with my previous provider and
now the more I am looking into offers on the net the less I can see this
feature specified.
What can I do without EE to backup my database in a completely automated
way? Can I assume SQLDMO will always be available so that I can backup the...

I'm tired of reading the fine print! Too many registrars out there.
So I'm asking this group for a little help.
I'm looking for a Registrar who will do an honest day's work for
a fair price. I'm tired of Registrars who build in "gotchas" into
their service offering that nab you for something more than you
bargain for - including the right to screw you later in their fine
print. I want a registrar who won't charge you to leave them....

Hi. I have a site that stores files on SQL Server tables (possibility
of a large database) and uses Full-Text Search to search through all
these files. I was wondering, since traffic might be quite large,
what companies normally do in such scenarios. I am fairly good with
programming but machine configuration is not my strong suit.
First, is there a way to host this ourselves? What kind of equipment
would we need for a dedicated...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
