I've managed to read from a local database using only javascript and the DAO
ActiveX object, but I can't make it work with a remote database. When I
change the connection string from "C:\..." to "http://..." it doesn't work
any more. Any suggestion?

Situation:
I have to connect with my Windows 2000 server using VS.NET 2003 and C# and
connect to a remote Linux server at another company's office and query their
XML file. Their file may be updated every hour or so. How can I do this
easily? I would like to use secure communication even encryption if
possible. I would query and insert locally only the newest records found in
that XML file to an xml or MS access db.

Hi NG !
I have the following situation:
I have a database on a server in my network and few client-computers on
which my software runs. My software must connect the database on the network
and makes readable requests on it. To be open for extensions (one day the
lib must support writeable request to the database) i thought of using the
Remote Proxy Pattern.
But I'm new in .NEt programming. I have read, that it would be possible to...

Hi,
I have developed a small application that is using a MSAccess DB.
the problem is that it was developed on a machine where the
application and the DB are both located.
now it needs to be change that the application will be able to run on
any other machine (using \\ syntax on the run command- not a problem)
using the DB located on a static-different machine.
for this purpose I need to create a Remote Connection from my

Hi All,
One programming technique to connect from one system to other is through socket programming.
Socket programming can be done using programming languages like Java,C,C++.
Are there any other programming techniques though which can be used to
1) Connect from local machine to remote machines AND
2) Transfer data from local machine to remote machines AND
3) Execute a process on the remote machines.

I've been asked run a VM on my development machine, with Windows Server 2003
installed. I've also been asked to then develop against this environment
from the host machine, using Visual Studio 2003.
Questions:
1. Is it even possible to use VS 2003 to develop when all files and IIS are
on a remote machine or VM?

Hello!
I'm trying to copy a file from another computer on the network that I do not
have permission with my current logon details to access.
If I open the folder using the Windows file manager with the path "\\
192.168.2.2\temp" (where temp is a shared directory on server \\192.168.2.2),
windows prompts for a User Name and password of a user who has permission on
that computer to access that directory. If I enter valid details, the...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
