Where is Access runtime located

489 Contributor
Never have had this problem before. Have a client that call yesterday after having her computer worked on, she couldn't get her Access program that I developed to run. It was trying to run the runtime version of the program on Regular Access and kept getting the message about the program being runtime and you either needed to add the /runtime switch or change the extension. I logged onto her computer and was trying to change the file association to the runtime version of access, but couldn't find where it was located. Thinking that maybe it was deleted I re-installed the runtime and tried again still couldn't find where it is located. So here's my question (finally) when I install the runtime what directory is it loaded to and is the program name still MSAccess.
Thanks again for any help.

I'm guessing this is Access 2007 and newer. You should be able to just change the extension to .ACCDR and it will run in runtime mode.

Yes it is access 2007. I program is a ACCDR but the access that is loaded on her computer will not open it. I get that error about adding the runtime switch or changing the ACCDR to ACCD? I'm still wondering why I can't find the Access runtime that I install.

I'm not sure where the runtime is but did you try adding the switch?

yes and that didn't work. However I just received a call from a technician who she had do the work on her system and after some doing he was able to get it to work. Here's what he did, first he uninstalled office 2007 pro plus, installed my program and it worked with the runtime. He then reinstalled the office 2007 pro plus and my program stopped working with the same problem. He uninstalled the office 2007 and reinstalled my program and it worked, so he then installed office 2003 and everything works fine. I don't know if the office 2007 pro plus has some problems, especially when it's office 2007 that I use to create the program. I don't know what the 2007 pro plus has that is different from my 2007. Anyway thanks for you help.

Try:
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. HKLM\SOFTWARE\Office\XX.X\Access\InstallRoot\Path

Ok question how can I tell if that's the runtimes path. It doesn't seem to be. When I look in that I only show one msaccess.
