I have a weird problem at a client site. This has popped up in recent months and I don't know if it is because of an update to my development machine or something updated at the client site.
I'm programming in Access 2007 and/or Access 2003. Usually 2007, but I keep the database version level at 2003. And my O/S is Windows 7; most if not all of the users are on Windows 7.
Whenever a user updates to the newest release of the Access program, the first time they run it they get an hourglass for like a minute and a half. Finally they get an error that says the .mdb file could not be found. Then they run the program again and it launches immediately and all is well.
I think Windows is doing something during that delay, I don't think the problem is in the Access program. I've put status bar displays into the startup module so I can see where any delays are. And this hourglass thing happens before my first message.
Oh, one more important thing. They tell me if the navigate to the folder where the .mdb is and double-click on the .mdb it launches right away. It's only when they use the shortcut on the desktop.
Any ideas what is happening?

Just a wild guess, but it sounds like Windows is trying to find the appropriate Executable File based on its Extension (*.mdb). You can easily test this Theory by having the Shortcut point to the Access Executable with the actual Database as an Argument, or verying the Registered File Types/Open With beforehand: - "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\MSACCESS.EXE" "C:\Test\Test.mdb"

The file types are already registered because they run this program all day every day. But I want to try this to see if it makes any difference. The only problem is that it doesn't happen on my machine. Maybe it's a security setting.
I have the exact same problem with Windows XP and Office 2007. We upgraded from 2003 to 2007 this last summer and some of my users started reporting the problem. The funny thing is that if the user has a fresh machine that only has ever had 2007 installed, it won't happen. This makes me think it is a registry error, but I can't confirm.

I have previously used Access versions 97, 2000, 2002, and now 2003.
I have written a program and wanted to send it to someone who only has
Access 2002.
I removed version 2003 and reinstalled 2002 but I can't see or open the
program (though when I go to "ADD/Remove Programs" in the control

Recently and without warning, a report that I was using in my VB.NET
2003 application started to take 10 minutes to load.
It also take thisamount of time to open in the deisgner. I'm using a
ADO.NET XML file as the datasource, so there is no network traffic.
Loking at the task manager, my CPU is low, and the memory isn't
