how do I prevent a new record when tabbing through fields?

6 New Member
MSAccess 2003:

Users tab through the data entry fields on a form, and accidently tab to the next record thereby erroneously inserting a record. What can I code in the Form_BeforeInse rt to prevent the insert from happening?

Private Sub Form_BeforeInse rt()

If MsgBox("Do you want to save the new BSR record " & Me.BSR_ID & " and all associated offers and price plan?", vbYesNo) = vbNo Then

'What can I code here to prevent the insert? Note, when an insert occurs, Child table records are also inserted.
End If
End Sub

No code is needed for this. In Design View for your form goto
Properties -- Other and set the Cycle Property to Current Record.

Thank you! Thank you! It's the simple things I don't know about that trip me up.
Works like a charm, much appreciated.

And Access has hundreds if not thousands of those "simple" things! ;0)>

Can I set it up so that a certain combination of fields can't contain the same entries, on another record? e.g. a combination of FirstName/LastName/address? Or FirstName/LastName/phone? Or FirstName/LastName/email? Or is it possible to allow this but to throw up an alert message? Warning that this person is probably already in the database? TIA

Hi I'm trying to prevent users from moving between different records in forms in Access 2000. I've turned off the record selectors and disabled the mouse wheel. I've now found that you can reach other records by tabbing through all the controls on the forms.

I am currently working on a database, in 3rd normal form, which is for candidates who apply for a job with the law firm that I workd for. My issue is with good form design. I have a main form. Then I have 3 pages on a tab control ( 4 if the type of candidate validates that is is to be shown) Each page has a subform. The subforms can be either single or continuous, I think I am still deciding what I want to lock down this entry...

Hi, This is a very common issue. I have a read only Windows Application datagrid, on which i want to prevent the tabbing between the columns and rows. What needs to happen is this: When i hit tab and land on the grid, I have to scroll through the rows using the up/dwon keys . When I hit tab when I'm on the grid, i need to set the focus onto the next

I have some required fields on a form. I'm checking these fields in the Form_BeforeUpdate sub. When just clicking on the fields and then trying to go to the next record by clicking on the little arrow at the bottom of the form it works as intended (A message box pops up telling the user the field is required and sets focus to the next field in my If Else statement), but when I tab into the field (any field) the message box pops up...

A client wants a press of the Enter key in a field on a continuous form to grab the value of that field from the previous record. But if they have typed a value and then hit Enter it shouldn't. I have tried a few ways but the main problem is that after typing a value and hitting Enter it still grabs the value from the previous record, trashing the value they just typed. Any ideas from you lateral thinkers.

Hi! I have a subform w/ an ID field that is linked the ID field in a parent form. In the tables for both, the ID field is a primary key. In the table that the main form reads from, the ID is an autonumber. In my subform, I want the user to be able to tab thru the fields, but after the last field, the cursor should go back to the first field. What happens now, is if both are on ID = 24, when I keep tabbing, after the last field, my subform...

I'm having issues with updates being blocked due to some sort of record locking issue. The error does not occur consistently, so I've had a hard time nailing it down. It does happen enough to cause major problems for my users though as they are working in this all day. I've been pounding my head against the wall for the last week trying to get this figured out. BACKGROUND I have an Access 03 DB that is split with the BE on a network...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
