Access Database Freezes On Open

I have an Access databse file on my desktop. When I double-click the icon to
open, a "locked" Access icon suddenly appears on the desktop indicating the
databse is opening/has opened - but there is no database window or startup
form in sight - seems like Access is freezing up for some reason - any ideas
as to why this is happening?

PS: I can get into the file by opening Access itself, then selecting
file>open, but I do not have exclusive access (can't make design changes) do
to the previous failed open attempt mentioned above. I need to reboot my
machine first. There are no error messages during the process either.

Many thanks,

-Chris

Run Task Mgr and look at the processes. You'll probably see msaccess.exe. Cancel
it. Then double click on the icon again.

I have an Access 2000 application that has a backend database which sits on the network and a frontend installed to each PC. When the frontend is opened, users have to log on and then the database opens their menu form with buttons for key activities. The problem I am having is that the user is logging on then there is a delay before the menu form opens (normally this is really fast) and then the application freezes - they can't push...

I'm using Access 2000 on a Dell PC with 256MB of RAM, and it freezes up almost immediately after opening the database. The database is on an internet server, but no-one else who connects notices any problems, it's only on this PC.Actually its a refurbished PC, the original Dell(same model) worked perfectly. But now as stated, upon opening the DB, or opening a table/query/report in print preview it freezes up for a couple of minutes. Then...

I've tried to research this problem, and I haven't been able to find any references to it. Probably because I shouldn't be doing it, but it was working, and now it's not. I'm trying to develop a small application to run on our intranet. I have a lot of old knowledge, and not a lot off access to new knowledge, so I'm shooting from the hip and fumbling. I have a small Access database that I'm using as a back end for some ..ASP pages. ...

I am new to Access 2003 and am running it on Win XP Pro. Quite often, when I open a database (no startup code) the system freezes. It can take up to 5 mins before I get my cursor back and the database responds. I get a similar problem saving a form. I have edited 5 forms and then saved them and have had time to leave the office, make a cup of coffee, come back, and it is still saving. This is happening on 3 different computers, 2 at...

I am in the midst of trying to convert about 25 Access 2000 to Access 2003. The new environment consists of Office/Access 2003 and Outlook 2003. When converting the back ends I have no problems. When converting the front ends I get the following issues and error. If I try to import all the objects into a blank Access 2003 shell I get a missing reference error for Outlook 2000, Excel 2000, and Word 2000 or after importing all the objects...

I have a Access 2000 database that I am opening with Access 2007. When I open the datbase in Access 2000 or Access 2003, the database runs as expected. In Access 2007 my main form opens, a form with multiple tabs and subforms, the form now takes a "very" long time (more than 10 minutes) to load. Has anyone come across this before, and if so were you able to fix it?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
