Conversion: Access 2000 to Access 2003

Deb
All 12 of my department's machines are being converted next week from
Windows 2000/Office 2000 to Windows XP/Office 2003. I have downloaded
the Migration document from Microsoft for distribution but would like
your input regarding Access as many of our group use it.

I am concerned especially about linking to other Access databases. And
about connecting to Dbo data. We also regularly connect to and from
Excel files.

All of our databases are rather small, and we do not share many, so SQL
Server is not an issue.

Looking forward to hearing your insight.

As Lyle and David can attest to, I've had a bad deal with Office 2003
on Windows XP. For whatever reason, Access 2003 imported about 5 times
as many records as it was supposed to when working with ONE query only.
No other queries displayed this problem. It seems to have something to
do with Access' interaction with dBASE IV files. I don't know if this
problem exists when using other types of external files.

In a nutshell, it seems to me that you will probably have a number of
problems at first, but you will eventually find them all and either be
able to fix them or create workarounds for them.

I've never had a single A2K application that didn't run problem-free
in A2K3, without any conversion or any adjustements to code or
anything else.

I don't know what you mean by "Dbo" data, though.

Regularly convert back and forth Access 2003 and Access 2000 databases. On a newer databases converting back to Access 2000 from Access 2003 the following message appears: The report name 'DirDataCopy' you entered in either the property sheet or macro is misspelled or refers to a report that doesn't exist. DirDataCopy could not be found after searching the database items. Searching google a couple of hits were found in Japan but no...

Is it possible to develop an Access app in Access 2003 that will run on Access 2000? Is it just a matter of selecting "Access 2000" from the Default File Format drop down list on the Advanced Tab of the Options dialog? I need to do some quick work for a client that runs Access 2000 and I've only been doing working on 2002/2003 projects since installing Access 2003 on my development workstation. Do I need to install Access 2000 on my...

I have upgraded my computer to Access 2003, but I have not converted my databases since all of my clients still use Access 2000. I need to create a new MDB, but Access is telling me that I will have to convert the database to 2003 before it will make an MDB. What are my options? If I convert the database, I assume that Access 2000 and A2k runtime will no longer be able to read the MDE. Can I re-install A2k on my machine? Is there...

Can anyone point me to a good resource to show me what potential problems I'll have converting from Access 2000 to Access 2003? I understand that 2003 can read and work with the 2000 files, but that 2003 has a different native format? I'd just like to get a good idea of the different issues that might come up. Thanks for any guidance, E

When I create a new db from the main Access window or thru Vb (set newdb = ...) I always end up with Access 2000 file format. I would like to get 2002 - 2003 file format. The reason is that when I try to link from a 2002 - 2003 db to a 2000 db, the Jet engine complains that it can't find the table in the target (2000) database. And no, I can't convert on the fly. Any suggestoins would be appreciated. ....Banba

I am in the midst of trying to convert about 25 Access 2000 to Access 2003. The new environment consists of Office/Access 2003 and Outlook 2003. When converting the back ends I have no problems. If I try to import all the objects into a blank Access 2003 shell I get a missing reference error for Outlook 2000, Excel 2000, and Word 2000 or after importing all the objects...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
