Hey,
I want to build a database which has an in front end application and
back end tables. I am new to access, and all my knowledge is from
Access for Dummies. Could any one give me a clue where to find
information regarding this topic? should I use macro to set up in front
end application or I could get it down by the GUI. I have a big book
"Running Access for Window 95" by hands, but not sure which chapter
will solve my problem. Any comments are well comes.
Thank you very much!

Here's what I would do: Go to Tools, Database Utilities, Database
Splitter and follow the instructions. Hope this helps!
Start by opening a blank Access file and enter all your tables and all the
relationships. When this is completed, you have your backend application.
Save this file. Now open a new blank Access file and go to Tables in the
database window. Click on File - Get External Data - Link Tables in the menu
at the top of the screen. Navigate to your backend file and select it. Click
Link. Click Select All. Click OK. You have now linked to all the tables in
the backend file. You will see in the list of tables an arrow on the left of
each table name indicating it is a linked table. When this is completed, you
have your frontend file. You can save it or start creating your queries
forms and reports and then save it.

A quick note to anyone reading this message thread. This newsgroup is an

I'll take that as one vote for no objection to advertising in CDMA.
Don,
I abhor what you did to Davis F and personally request you never do it
again. However, I applaud your stance here!!! It's time for some people to
start telling Arno R, John Marshall, Keith Wilby and Randy Harris and all
their supporters that they are not the champions of the newsgroups and that
they are damaging the newsgroups severely. Thank you, but please nothing
more about David F.

Thank you for your assistance in advance. I'm trying to figure out why on my
computer the front and back ends are ok, when I use Access developer and set up
the program with the front and back ends in the same install folder, I get
errors and no way to reconnect the front and back end on the foreign computer.
Is there something in the developer package that allows this to happen, that
I'm not loading with the program and setup files?

Most of my Access database implementations have been fairly small in
terms of data volume and number of concurrent users. So far I haven't
had performance issues to worry about. <knock on wood>
But I am curious about what techniques those of you who have done higher
volume access implementations use to ensure high performance of the
database in a multi-user 100mbps LAN implementation???
Thanks

Hello there.
I have a question somewhat related to this topic, and I don't know
where else to go. I hope somebody can help. I've created a database
in access, that I'd like to share with less than 10 users. I'd like
each user to see only some of the records in the database. So for
example, if I have eight users in eight countries, I want each of them
to only see information for their country.
I was told that the easiest way to do...

Whenever anyone has a question about securing an Access database he/she
is usually referred (unsurprisingly) to the Security FAQ. This is
however incomplete/unclear with respect to databases with a separate
front-end and back-end, which is rather surprising considering that all
Access databases should be split into a separate front-end and back-end.
Noticing that there are quite a lot of questions on this subject in the
Access newsgroups...

The concept of FE/BE is to separate the code and control parts of a database solution from the design and storage of the data.
Benefits include :
Releasing new versions of the code / control (FE) can be done without having to manage the porting of the data.
Multiple users are less of an issue if the data is stored in a BE database. It's even possible (many developers prefer this in fact) to release the FE database to each user as a local db....

I created an Access Database and added the Security thru the Securtiy wizard. Then Split the database into the fe and be files, however, the security did not stay with the .be file. Is there a way to prevent random people from accessing the .be file and/or tables? or by creating security on the .be, will it give me problems with running queries on the front end?
Can anyone help?
Thanks,

I've got a Split database, where there a lot of back-end databases. There is one Backend-database for each customer. And there is also only one back-end linked at a time.

when I try this:

The switchboard is still intact because I can access it from the Switchboard Manager if I open the database with <shift>double-click, but I don't know how to get the front...
