HELP - Everything is Locked

Hi All,

I just tried to follow some advice on securing a database. It worked great. So, figuring I learned my lesson, I deleted the original test database file and went to lunch.

Unfortunately, now every database on the entire machine is locked, and I am getting frantic. What must I do to get back to work?

Thanks,
Desperate Chuck

What do you mean by "every database on the entire machine is locked"? Do
you mean you're always prompted for a password? If so then either:

a) You've modified the default "system.mdw " Workgroup Information File (this
is a bad thing but not terminal) or

b) You've used the Workgroup Admin tool to point your PC at your custom
"*.mdw" Workgroup Information File.

If a) then you need to rename "system.mdw " to, say, "secure.mdw " and
(depending on what version of Access you're using) either replace or
re-create the default "system.mdw ".

If b) then use the Workgroup Admin tool to point your PC at the default
"system.mdw ".

In either case, to open your secure db you would then need a desktop
shortcut with a command line in the format:

"Full path to MSACCESS.exe" "Full path to your file.mdb" /wrkgrp "Full path
to your secure.mdw"

including the quotation marks.

Thanks - This worked. Right after I did this, Access told me that
something was corrupt, and then told me it needed to be repaired. I
jammed in the install CD, and I'm back in business. Again, thanks for
pulling my fat outta the fire. Chuck

That's nothing. All my databases have restraining orders against me.

Try replacing your local system.mdw with a "clean" one.

Hello, We have a small team building a project that involves some 30 or so c# assembly dlls. It is a client server application with 1 exe as the starting point. The dlls and exe are sharing an assemblyinfo file that has a strong name and version assiciated with it. We are having problems in the way we have been developing. We have made two attempts at this. Attempt 1) In our first attempt, we basically had 1 folder that

Hi All, I am faced with a horrible hang problem. I have a COM exe server that executes some tasks. The task execution manager is a thread that manages the pool of threads, which is 4 per processor. Each task is processed in a separate thread. Each of the executer threads is an STA thread, and it goes ahead and executes the task. No problems are encountered when tasks are executed one at a time, but when multiple tasks are executed...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
