On beforeupdate event of the field you can test to see what the user is
try to do to it.
For instance:

if nz(thisfield,"" )="" then cancel =true

Disable the control that displays the data (if it's not a datasheet,
althought there may be a way[not sure]). It will appear grey-ed out,
but the data will still be displayed.

This may be better than testing for an empty string on the beforeupdate
event because, what if the user deletes the text, and replaces it with
something other than an empty string?

Disabling the control is great if you don't want to allow updates. You
can add a another control to accept new text to be appended, but the
existing text cannot be updated.

How can you disable the control and add another control to accept new
text to be appended?

Pretty new to access.

Cheers

Hi there I'm hoping that someone can help me with a question I have about javascript syntax. I got an html page that uploads an image and some text field to a database. I find an interesting issue that one base class has only one copy for each derived class. It looks like that one base class will be copied into three base classes while derived class from base class is executed. It means that three derived classes are pointed to a separated copy of base class. I do not allow second and third copy of base class to be created, but it must remain only first copy of base class. It allows three derived...

I have a form in Access97 which facilitates a query against a production Access database. Users will enter some search terms and see a datasheet view of the results in a subform. The prod table is linked (the form is not included in the production mdb file). I need to ensure that an unexperienced user will not accidentally change the prod table. What measures should I take? So far I have done the following: In the subform, set Allow...

Can someone give a sample to prevent a row from being deleted in a datatable? I tried e.Row.RejectChanges(); in dt_RowDeleting() but seems does not work. I need verify if there other data using data in this row before actually remove it from datagrid. I can certainly control with Delete button. But if I want to allow the user to use Del key on the keyboard, I lost this kind control.

Does anyone know a way to prevent a file being deleted so the only way to delete is via unistallation? Help would be very much appreciated.

I'm currently using css to design my website but I've noticed that when I change the font size in firefox (holding ctrl and using the mouse wheel) that the size of my textfield boxes grows bigger and outside of its intended boundries. Is there any way to prevent this (maybe to explcitly set the size of the textfield?)

I have this Hashtable of Hashtables, and I'm accessing this object from multiple threads, now the Hashtable object is thread safe for reading, but not for writing, so I lock the object every time I need to write to it, but now it occurred to me that maybe I could just lock one of the Hashtables inside without locking the entire object, but then I thought maybe some thread could instruct the outside Hashtable to remove an inside Hashtable...

Hello, I have been successfully using a database I've created for several months to populate an equipment list for a project we've been working on. However, the form has recently stopped working for some unknown reason. I've been having a problem recently where one table (Project Info) keeps auto-incrementing when I try to create a new record with another table (Equipment Info). Only the Equipment table is supposed to grow. It used to never...

The PyGUI website specified this place as the place for general discussion about it, so here goes.... First off - thanks for something that is so straightforward to get running on OSX... I've been migrating some relatively straight-forward scripts-with-GUIs from Linux to OSX, and, while I used FLTK on Linux, I could not get pyfltk to install on OSX. PyGUI was so straightforward, though. Made me a very happy bunny. Fortunately, I wrote...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
