Access 2000 under Win XP crashing after long term use?

Hi.

I have a client who has been running my Access 2000 system for a while now
(about a year and a half) and is suddenly encountering lots of problems...
as in misc. fatal errors that shut the database down.

Hard drive space looks good (I think): about 3 GB of about 8 GB free
RAM: 316 MB
O/S: Win XP Home Edition SR-1
Access 2000 service pack 1, I think

I have suggested the following:
1) Compact and repair the database
2) enlarging her paging file
3) removing files in her TEMP directory
4) unistalling and reinstalling Access

None seem to make a difference.

She was able to copy the database and successfully run it on another
machine.

Anyone have any experience with Access suddenly failing after long time use?

I had a similar experience with another long-time client a while back but
compact/restore resolved that issue.

Any ideas?

TIA,
Aliza

No

The Access installation is damaged:
1. Uninstall Office.
2. Reinstall Office.
3. Apply the service packs, including SP3 for Office 2000, and SP8 for JET
4.

Yes

The database is damaged, even though it works on another setup:
1. Apply the service packs, including SP3 for Office 2000, and SP8 for JET
4.

2. Uncheck the boxes under:
Tools | Options | General | Name AutoCorrect
Explanation of why:

3. Compact the database to get rid of the Name AutoCorrect junk:
Tools | Database Utilities

4. Decompile a copy of the database by entering something like this at the
command prompt while Access is not running. It is all one line, and include
the quotes:
"c:\Program Files\Microsoft office\office\m saccess.exe" /decompile
"c:\MyPath\MyDa tabase.mdb"

5. If it is still not fixed, rebuild the database by following the 6 steps
for the 1st symptom in:

I will try to be as descriptive as possible, but this error has me stumped and I am not sure what relevant info to include.... I am running Access XP on a Windows XP machine. I initially began developing an app in Access 2000 but converted it several months ago to XP. So the app is now Access XP format also. My app is crashing on a regular basis, with the totally non-descript Microsoft error (Microsoft Access has encountered a...

I have a fairly large Access application that ran correctly in Access 2000. After upgrading to Access 2003 (and recompiling and updating references), it reliably crashes at a certain point. If I step through the VBA code, the crash does not occur. What is different about stepping through code instead of just running it? Any idea how to find the cause? I know about where it happens, but since it is Access itself crashing, finding a...

Access uses odbc to linked tables on SQL Server, plus a few local tables.

Hi to all! A customer of mine told me some days ago that her IT-people told her ACCESS would not be such a good idea for continuing with our project, because Access will not be continued in the future. I haven't heard of this. Does anybody know more about it? The IT-People usually prefer Oracle. If they really want to go in this direction, could our Access-application (if continued) be used as a front end with an Oracle back end? Does...

Hello, I help maintain an Access 2000 front end for a rapidly growing business(our back end is Postgresql). As we grow we have concerns over the long term viability of Access 2000 to keep us going through all the growth we need. Having read a post by one Bruce Pick about some maximums that Access 2000 has we have grown a bit more concerned than we were before, currently we have about ~800 forms and reports and Bruce lists the maximum...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...
