Very strange: the same database opens rather fast on one computer and
very slowly on the other computer. Once it is open, there is no
difference in speed, but only opening it takes about one minute.
I have had this problem before, and suddenly (after a few days) the
problem was gone without any sign of the cause. But now it seems to
stay...
I use Access 97, Jet 3.5, Windows XP and I am running the database on
a local machine, imitating a network using the SUBST command.
Thanks in advance!

If you haven't already, obtain the most current Service Release for Office
97 and install it on the slow-access-booting computer. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en -
Download details: Office 97 Service Release 2b (SR-2b) Download Information
Once you have run this service release pack and rebooted the machine, try
booting up the database and see if it still gives you this trouble.

I'd also ensure Jet 3.5 SP3 is on both computers as well.

I tested a FE/BE application developed in A2000 on a A2002 machine and got
this message when exiting the app. Clicking the only available button "OK",
exits the application, as intended.
The FE is just the mdb, not an mde. FE and BE are in different directories
on the same machine.
Are there settings, preferably via code, that I can add to stop this error?
Thank you for any help.

I have an Access XP split application operating on Windows XP. I have
a form that opens on Startup that opens the backend database and keeps
it open until the application is closed.
For the first user to open the application it takes about 30-40 secs
which is acceptable. But for the 2nd user onwards it takes about 1.5 -
2 minutes which is not acceptable.
What can I do to open the application faster for the second user
onwards. I have...

I'm currently experiencing a strange phenomenon:
At my Office, Visual Studio takes a very long time to compile our solution
(more than 1 minute for the first project).
At home, Visual Studio compiles the same solution much faster (about 10
seconds for the first project).
My home computer is only marginally faster than the one I have at the office
(P4 2.53 vs. P4 2.4, same amount of RAM).
On the slow machine, the CPU usage is very low,...

I am working on an Access 2002/Oracle vba automated overnight process.
The problem is there is one user with rights to a certian set of tables
and another user with a certain set of tables. I can't run the
overnight process with just one login. Currently, I am having problems
with relogging into the database with a different login.
Even when I enter a different userid and password into a connection
string, the system seems to still use...

Hallo!
I'm working with C# .NET 2.0, implementing Client/Server Applications which
are connecting via Network to SQL-Server or Oracle Databases.
To stay independent from the underlaying Database I use
System.Data.Common.DBConnection and .DBCommand.
How can I keep aware from connection losses (network not availeable,
db-server not available...)?
Are there any strategies to detect this broken connections, and how can I

Hi All,
After moving to VS2005, we've noticed that opening an existing (large)
solution and being able to type code takes a lot longer than in VS2003.
Typically, the IDE will open, and all the windows will appear, but then the
hour glass will flick on and off for about 1 minute.
If the "Pending Checkins" window is open, I can see a message that says
"Updating. xxx file(s) to process" with the 'xxx' portion slowly counting
down from 800...

Hi All,
I tried to access the mysql database in ODBC using ip address and
username/password.
It returns, "cannot connect to MySQL server on IP ADDRESS(10060)".
This could be related to Firewall on the server.
Is there anyway to access MySQL database using ODBC without opening
port 3306?

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
