What kind of program are you trying to open? Is it the same ones every time?

Do the programs open slowly if you attempt to open them from the start menu?

Can you help me figure out what to do about popups? Sometimes we develop web applications where popups make very good sense for precisely the same reasons they make sense in traditional locally-installed application interfaces. I understand some people object, on grounds having nothing to do with disabilities, to links that generate new browser windows. I don't know what the basis of their objection is, but I wonder whether the same...

Hello, I am trying to open a window containing an image and I would like the image to be flush against the window -- i.e. have no padding or border. Can I make this happen with a single call to a window.open function? I would prefer not to create a separate HTML page. So far all I have is the basic var cwin = window.open('images/KJV-THANKS.gif', 'Thanks', 'width=243,height=420,'); cwin.focus();

Jargons of Info Tech industry (A Love of Jargons) Xah Lee, 2002 Feb People in the computing field like to spur the use of spurious jargons. The less educated they are, the more they like extraneous jargons, such as in the Unix & Perl community. We've had a very large A97 app running fine for the last seven years. I've just converted to SQL Server backend, which is being tested, but meanwhile the JET based version, running under terminal server, has suddenly started running very slowly. The network engineer has thrown up his hands and said "It's Access 97". I've checked out lots of things including the Oplocks setting and other stuff from this NG, and I think I've done everything...

Several years ago I developed an Access 97 runtime application. I have rewritten this application using Visual Basic 6 with an Access 2003 database. When I run the VB application with the database on the same PC, the performance is good. When I move the database to a different PC on my two PC network, the performance is slow. This is not the case with the original Access 97 application; it performs fast regardless of where the...

Hi there, I figured out, for the first execution for any .NET-powered app such as VB.NET or C#, it takes 7-8 seconds to see main form of "any" application even the application consists of a single form and a button and only 32kb sized. The second execution(without rebooting machine) is done less than a second. This slowdown on startup doesn't occur on non-.NET-powered apps such as VB6, MFC or VC++ 6 applications. If an application is...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
