no period "." in field names? what to do?

I have to make a database that will export to a tab delimited file, but the
requirements are
a field name with a . in the field so [item no.]

Is it true access will not allow this?
If not, how can I get around this?

Thanks

Try assigning a caption property to the field. These allow periods but I'm
not sure if the actual field name is used in an export or if the caption
will be used. If the export uses the caption then problem solved.

I tried this and it does not work. But if I check the 'save formatted' when
I export, it does maintaint the "." but puts all these dashes in the export
file.

I guess I can just export the file without field names and keep a header
string and append this file to the header string in code and create a new
file.
What a pain!!

Thanks

Hello, I have bumped upon this problem: I do some client-side form processing with JavaScript, and for this I loop over all the forms in the document. In order to identify them, I read their "name" property (which sources from "name" HTML attribue). The problem is, that if the form contains form control named "name", it overwrites the form name property. In fact, I'm quite surprised that it's so easy to spoil any of the form object...

We want to create fictional character names for a children's project, and have selected 30 first names, 30 last names, and want to include 26 (a-z) middle initials. Therefore there are 30x30x26 = 23,400 possible unique names in the format of "First MI Last" such as "James B. Happy" that we wish to create and print a few hundred at a time onto paper dolls. (We have 30 other first names for females, and can just do the required operation...

To comp.databases.ms-access -- I am trying to re-number the "tab index" for a large number of controls on a form. When I try to do this one control at a time, Access automatically re-numbers the tab index for some of the other controls, thereby messing up what I'm trying to do. I know about the "View--Tab Order" option, but the trouble with this is that it doesn't show entire field names ... and my field names are rather long....

Hi All, I am using a FormView control. The allows me to update records in the database. However, when a database field is null I can not update the field on the form. It works fine when the field is not a null value. I am not using any code behind (C#) to bind the data or manipulate the data. I have read that when there is a null value in the database that there is no record in the "dataset". Can anyone show me how to bind a value in the...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
