Stand Alone Access Applications

What do I need to get (from Microsoft I assume) in order to distribute
stand alone Access applications to people who do not (and will not) have
Access installed on their systems?

I have heard about Run Time modules, but am unsure of what they are and
how they are obtained. Is there a cost associated with this?

My information is relevant to AXP.

In what context do you want to distribute? Internal environment? External
environment? Retail sales? Enterprise Sales? Answering this question will
help you with an answer.

Do a search on this topic in this group and you will find your answer. From
what I remember, there is quite a bit of information about this very topic.

In short, you can use a developer version of office and get the packaging
wizard. This works for known distribution locations where you know what is
already there.

If you are real serious, use Wise or InstallShield and SageKey to distribute
your application. This works for locations where you have to install without
the knowledge of prior software installed.

It shopuld be noted that in order to use InstallShield, etc, you still
need the office developer thingy in order to obtain both the runtime
version of Access and the licence to distribute it.

I'm guessing that nowadays you can only get the XP version (from MS)
so if you require an older version you can either use ebay to obtain
one or else (not sure if it still applies) get the latest version and
use the downgrade rights and a copy of the earlier one.

Probably nothing, to all your questions. I've deployed stand-alone
Access applications using ADO and it's pretty painless. You have to
make sure the target computer has MDAC installed. All Win2k+ computers
do but you'll probably want to distribute the latest version anyway.

You can get it here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/...asp?frame=true

Nowdays I use Inno Setup for all my installation needs. Absolutely
free and incredibly easy to use compared to things like install
shield: http://www.jrsoftware.org/isdl.php

See the knowledge base article on installing MDAC:
http://www.jrsoftware.org/iskb.php

I don't know anything about run time modules. Others here can
answer that question.

Howdy all, I'm wondering if someone could give some direction on a problem I have or share their experiences. I'm wanting to create a little PHP application that will run on a local machine and use ODBC to connect to a Access database on that machine. A series of forms will interact with the database but if I understand correctly, I need some way to parse the PHP code. Is there a stand alone parser that could be used in place of a...

Hi, I have a very serious issue at hand. I have created a small C# Console App (Csd.exe) that collects a list of files as its argument and generates their Md5 sets. This application is used by other applications in my dept, which simply call this Csd.exe app and passing a list of files. I want to ask how can I return a value from this Csd.exe application as an indicator or a signal to the calling app that Csd.exe has finished working....

Ok, we all know a stand alone .NET EXE isn't possible, unless you want to shell out $4k (see previous post with similar subject). Frankly, I don't. Given that, what are the options for VB programmers? 1. There's VB6. One acronym and one word: DLL Hell (tip of the hat to Microsoft for this one). 2. There's learn Java, which is slow and has a really funky interface. Why do that any way if you know you'll always be on a Win machine. ...

I have an application that needs to conform to some finicky clients. The goal is to make the application an asp.net app and host it on the web for our clients which has many benefits as everyone knows. However, some clients will not be too happy about us hosting their data and would preffer that they deploy the applications to their desktops and host the database themseleves. So I have 2 delivery methods to contend with, but I require...

Maybe that would meet my need. If not, what is the best or quickest stand alone database for vb.net and a laptop?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...
