Can't see the database window in Access

All of a sudden when I open any Access database, I can't view the database
window. This includes databases where I have hidden the database window on
startup, and those that I haven't.

I think there may be some security setting that kicked in, or it could be a
virus, but so far I've had no luck in any of my KB searches.

Does anyone have an idea why this is happening? It's driving me crazy.

Thanks forever if you can help

Does it appear when you press F11?
Have you set the startup option to hide the window?

Shannon,

In Access2000, after you've opened the db and can't see it, go to your File
menu option and choose it from the recent file list. It will alternately
open between showing and not showing the db window. Make sure the Tools |
Startup | Display Database Window option is checked.

In Access97, go to Window | Unhide, then make sure the Tools | Startup |
Display Database Window option is checked.

No, it doesn't appear with the F11. I'm familiar with all the startup
options, and this seems to be something different. Moreover, it's
happening with ALL my Access 2000 databases. With my Access 97
databases, I get a disk or network error followed by a low memory error.

It's not something I've run across before.

Unfortunately, I've tried all that. I'm an Access programmer myself, so
I've done a fair amount work with the startup options.

This problem is happening to all my databases, even the blank ones.

I'm thinking it comes from a virus (although I searched the virus sites
and didn't find anything), or a security change (I updated from
windowsupdate the other day), or maybe from when I installed VS .NET,
but so far I've got no real clues.

I'm tearing my hair out now ...

If it doesn't appear and the startup options for disabling that
have not been set, do you see scrollbars? Way back when, with some
earlier service release of A97, occasionally the MDB file would
relocate itself several screens down and to the right, with the
result that I'd have both horizontal and vertical scrollbars. The
only way to relocate it was to move it gradually one screen at a
time to the top and left.

Very annoying.

Just for fun try creating a new "Normal.dot ".

If that becomes corrupt, I've seen it do some strange stuff within the MsOffice
environment that has cleared after replacement.

I'd rename rather than deleting. Just in case.

"And.... Exactly at which point did you consider this a good idea?"

Shannon,

Have you tried the mdbs on other computers? Do you want to email one to me
to try? I'm also in Vancouver,

John

A new problem has me puzzled. I have what appears to be a very stable database but suddenly I can't find my Database Window. I tried the Startup option of Display Database Window and hit the toolbar button for Database Window, but nothing shows. When I hit that button on the toolbar, that button and several other momentarily go away but then come back as I hit another part of the screen..... Any clues? Thanks!

I use this line DoCmd.SelectObject acTable, "tblAdmin", True when I want to display database window. Often- times, working on a remote mde via a TCP/IP connection, its convenient to have a look at at the database window, open tables, make changes.

After setting up an import spec, I went back to my main screen and found that the database window was gone. I've been working in Access for 10 years and this has never happened before. I've seen this message on the group discussions many times and I know how to start with the shift key or press the f11 key when in the database, but these things aren't working. I have always had the "display database window" checked in the start up for...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...
