Hello All

Can you please help me with a problem, I'm only looking for a starting point
as I am a long way from even knowing exactly what I want to do. Here's the
basics anyway, any help much appreciated.

I have a database table containing a schedule, Dates, Locations, Who, Job
Details etc. This information can be entered in a variety of ways, via forms,
queries, and directly into the table. Records can be edited, added or
deleted as the plan changes.

I would like to be able to run a query that lists all the changes made to
the table since a certain date and time. (i.e. list all the records that
have been deleted, added or changed since yesterday)

I have a feeling that I may have to change the way we enter data so that it
is always in a form, thus enabling a way of coding actions when items are
changed, deleted or added ? Also I imagine this code would in fact be
populating a new table with the changes so that deleted record information
can be copied to it? But though I would check first to see if I am
reinventing a wheel that Bill has already built in to the guts of access?
Regards
Steve

Steve,
yes, you'll have to disallow users direct access to tables, and
probably action queries too. Then you'll have to write to a log table
before your events do anything. I think Allen Browne has code for it
on his website. It's like "event Logger" or something.

I have looked around for this but I seem to be missing something. I have a forum based on a query that brings display some table info in tabular form. What I would like to do is prevent the user from adding records or modifying certain columns. Example: My headings are: First Name, Last Name, Time, Penalty, and Total. The First and Last Should not be edited in this form. Only Time and Penalty should be edited here. The total column just...

In my database, I have a form with a subform. I had everything working correctly - the correct records would display on the subform for each record on the form. I could edit, add, and delete on the subform. I added a field to my table, and modified the design of my subform. Now, data is not getting displayed on the subform for any form records. I did not change any properties. I'm on XP Pro and using MS Office 2000 Pro.

Is there a way to do this. Currently, you can have multiple users editing the same record and not until they try to save it does it tell you that the record is being edited by another person. I want to make the record 'non-viewable' is it's already being edited by another user. Can anyone help?

Hi, I have a database with 2 main forms. Contacts and companies. I share the base with two others via LAN. On the companies form I have buttons to navigate throught the records (>400). We are mostly handling let say 5 companies. Every time I have to navigate or choose the find record button to get the right company. I am looking fo a feature to have listed in a combo list the last 5 visited records ("recently visited records").

Hi, I asked this in an MS Access newsgroup, but no one has answered. Since it also applies to SQL Server, maybe someone in here has an answer? I actually do have the same problem in both SQL Server 2000 and Access 2000. When I click in certain records in a memo field, I get the error message "text too long to be edited", and I can't get into the record to make any changes.

The situation: * I have a ButtonColumn in a DataGridView. * When the user preses one of the buttons, a dialog appears. * Based on what the user selects in the dialog, data is entered programmatically into the the underlying cell (i.e., I'm setting Value property of the cell based on user input, but the user is not directly entering any data). The problem:

We are using .net Framework 1.1 We are having one page on which we are using this Grid component. From this page we open a popup for adding new record as well as for editing an existing record (For Edit we want to pass the ID of that particular row) And when user clicks on 'SAVE' button in popup window, those changes need to be reflected onto the parent (into the Grid). This happens by refreshing the parent page. But in that case all...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies.
