Record is not locked, although Edited Record locking is set

We are using Access 2000 database, with the following settings.

Tool > Options > Advance >
Default Record Locking = Edited Record
Open databases using record level locking = True

Form property >
RecordLock = Edited Record.

However, the record is still NOT locked. Multiple users can still open
and edit the record at the same time. And the second person who tried
to save will get error message, the update confict message as in "No
Locking" setting.

I'm using bound form. How can I set it such that only one user can
open the record for editing at any one time? Our file server is
Windows 2003 server running DFS (distributed file system).

I googled through this group, but most of the discussions were that
records got locked unnecessarily. My problem is the opposite of that.
I couldn't find this topic in the Access Web as well. I hope someone
here can help... Thanks in advance.

I have a problem with record locking / blocking within an application. The app is quite straight forward. Written in Delphi 5 using BDE to access a SQL 7 database (Win2K server). Every so often the users (when they bother to tell me) find that the application locks up and they are unable to work. No errors are produced (error trapping in the app is good). They 'shout round' to each other and get someone to exit the data entry screen....

I have created a database for a client and was told that it was to be a one-user database. Well, you know the next statement ... now they want 3 people to be able to use the database. (FYI, I have never created a database for multiusers. I've done some searching but not finding what I want.) I have split the database. In Tools, Options, I have set the following: Default open mode = Shared Default record locking = Edited Record

I have been ok with optimistic locking most of the time but I have a situation now where there is more of a chance that users could try to edit a record at the same time. I'd like to use pessimitic locking, but it's not working quite as I expected. I've read all over, and by now have posted elsewhere on this subject, and (strangely it would seem) have made no progress. This seems to be a bit of a blank spot on the map. (Access 2000-2003,...

I'm having problem with using DAO recordset to append record into a table and subsequent code to update other tables in a transaction. The MDB is Access 2000 with the latest service pack of JET 4. The system is client/server, multiusers based. The MDBs are using record locking. Here is part of the code: Dim wkSpace As Workspace, db As Database Dim rstTrans As DAO.Recordset Set wkSpace = DBEngine.Workspaces(0)

Hi All, I have created a multi-user application at work which is working perfectly apart from a small problem which I believe to more a of a user issue (maybe some will set me straight on that one). I have set the 'Default Record Locking' option to 'Edited Record' in the hope that if someone tries to edit a record someone has open, they would not be able to do so. After a little testing, I found this not to be the case. Instead, if 2...

Guys, I created a database about 2 years ago with about 30 tables and 60 queries, with a bunch of forms, and macros, and a whole heap of a lot of VB code. It was worked excellent until recently. Here's the problem........ The users are griping about not being able to update records when they are in the forms. Could the database be getting to large or something?......because

Using Access 2003 and using a form that's mostly bound. I need a way to tell if user-1 is on the record when user-2 tries to open the same record, w/o waiting for the user-1 to save the record first. The only way I can think of is by adding a flag to the record and setting it to true when user-1 opens the record. If user-2 tries to open it, the flag is checked for true, then a message would be displayed to them that user-1 is on the...

A crude, unlikely scenario just so I can get my head around this: Split DB; front end back end. Each user has the FE locally the BE is stored on a server. 1. UserA opens customerA's record and edits the telephone number. 2. UserB opens the same form and tries to navigate to customerA's record. At this point I want to inform UserB that the record is locked. How do

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
