Text too long to be edited

JA
Hi,

I asked this in an MS Access newsgroup, but no one has answered. Since it
also applies to SQL Server, maybe someone in here has an answer? I actually
do have the same problem in both SQL Server 2000 and Access 2000.

When I click in certain records in a memo field, I get the error message
"text too long to be edited", and I can't get into the record to make any
changes.

I tried exporting the record to html, but only part of the memo field is
exported.

I know that in SQL Server, you can increase the size of the field, but you
can't do that in an Access memo field (that I know of!).

I'm thinking that if I could get into the field and lose some of the white
space, it would help, but I can't get into the field, and can't get the data
out, either!

Does anyone know anything about this?

Thanks, Jill~

I don't know much about Access but I suspect you are trying to edit data via
an Access form or grid. Since the problem occurs when you attempt edit some
existing rows but not others and occurs with both Access and SQL Server
databases, it looks to me like there is some built-in Access data length
restriction.

Your best bet for this question is one of the groups in the
microsoft.publi c.access hierarchy.

Hope this helps.

I'm trying to retrieve a text value from a MySQL database, put it into an updateable form, allow edits, and send back the edited text back into the MySQL database. I've been able to successfully retrieve the text and put it into the editable form, using htmlspecialchars function. But, I can't find a way of accepting the edited text and sending back to the database. Here's my code for retrieval. <?php

When did this change? I thought is was 64K but I managed to dump 18MB in one, Access crashed when I scrolled to the bottom (out of memory error then sent report to MS). Out of interest, does anyone what a reasonable limit is? i.e. how much text can be dumped and scrolled without crashing. -- Pretentious? Moi?

Why do I sometimes get the error "the text is too long to be edited" when trying to work directly in a memo field in Access 2000? Is there a way to make that go away? Thanks, JA

I am building a little unique dialog editor and have derived some new classes like DButton, DLabel and DTextBox. The user adds these Controls to a panel which is part of a class Document which is not a control. The controls in the dialog can be edited with a PropertyGrid. When the user closes the dialog he edited it was first disposed, because it was not part of an Control anymore. I changed that by overriding the Dispose function of the...

Hi Everybody (especially Microsoft), we build EMF files with rotated text for export to office (powerpoint, word). It is planned that the text can be edited in the office document. Without the rotate transformation the text stays as a block and can be edited in the office document after ungrouping. But a rotated text leads to single charackters when ungrouping. The following sample code creates an emf file. The file can be dragged to...

Greetings, Introduction At the end of the last Compiler article part I stated that I wanted to write about text processing. I had no idea what exactly to talk about; until my wife commanded me to "clean up that mess you never use anyway and please dump the rest of it in the attic or simply throw that junk away". I want to make a statement here:

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
