Windows XP firewall delay

158 New Member
I'm running windows xp and everything has been fine until recently. Whenever I boot up my machine it runs through the startup process, but when it gets to the windows firewall it causes a long delay. I've checked my hdd and my other startup programs and have not seen anything that could be slowing the process down. I've also checked for malware spyware and viruses with no results. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Jolly

Jolly,

Just of the top of my head try disabling the firewall first reboot the system and see if the firewall is having problems. Make sure you have no internet connection when you do this to prevent any malware from connecting to the internet.

if the computer loads fine than i would recommend restoring the computer from the point that it was lasting working. With out going into more crazy details this would be the simplest action for you.

if it still delays, you might have some malware that was not recognized by your anti virus.

Let us know how it goes.

Ok, so here is the problem. I'm working on a headless server program implemented as a .NET C# Console project. There is a UPS mounted to this server (though not a windows compliant UPS). I can only talk to the UPS over a special device driver. Through this device driver I can detect that the UPS is going to notify Windows 2000 server to shut down. So I start doing a graceful termination. But Windows shuts down pretty quickly and there...

Greetings, I'm interested in a simple content-based internet firewall/filter, similar to dansguardian (http://dansguardian.org/), but written in python, and for windows. I assumed such a project would already exist, but my searches on freshmeat, and google turned up empty. I would be interested in starting my own project if necessary, so I have two questions: 1) Does any one no of such a project?

Shut down Windows For various reasons you may require a shut down of Windows to happen programmatically. For instance if the installation of your program requires system reconfiguration. The following code will do this for you with options to Reboot, etc. 'Module code - modShutdown ' Shutdown Flags Const EWX_LOGOFF = 0 Const EWX_SHUTDOWN = 1

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
